100% !!! Maybe she’s a relative of some kind! I’ve made my thoughts clear on this but the opportunity was right there to have her be Hebe.
She’s even sharing scenes with Mel for crying out loud it would’ve been perfect :sob:

Expecting the usual “it can’t happen” or “tv > big finish” in 3… 2… :wink:

Maybe she changed her name? Maybe for some kind of witness protection, maybe just because she felt like it?

If they can mention Mel’s family all being dead (which i will take as a Spiral Scratch reference, Russell, I know you read the EU.), then Shirley can be Hebe. [1]

  1. almost wrote “Mel can be Hebe” there, that would be funny. Not impossible too, quick, someone write a Faction Paradox or Cwej or Lucy Wilson that does that! ↩︎

What do you mean by that? Six and Mel were first introduced to Hebe during one of her marine expeditions. As canon stands today, she wasn’t affiliated with any alien organization at the time.

I know you said this as a joke but if our responses are repetitive it’s only because this topic is being repeated so much.

There are only two explanations for why Shirley isn’t Hebe:

  1. RTD and the BBC deliberately changed her name to annoy you. They hate Big Finish, despite RTD personally defending them and allowing them to continue to use the Doctor Who license. It’s all a conspiracy.
  2. The BBC can’t make their taxpayer-funded show be an advert for a private company which people have to pay for, and a tiny fraction of the viewers even know exist.

I am baffled why you think the correct answer is 1 when it’s clear the answer is 2 (or something along those lines).

They could have just not used Ruth Madeley at all. But I think it’s good that actors who have been in Big Finish get to have roles in the main show too.

I’m glad you can have your headcanon about who she is and how she connects, but that’s all it is :man_shrugging:t2:

It just feels like invalidation to be honest. Of course we can agree to disagree but like going into the EU thread and everyone 100’ing a reply that goes against the principle of the thread just irked me the wrong way to be honest.

I don’t necessarily think number 1 but I just as a fan of Hebe and more so BF found it annoying when it could’ve happened. We could’ve had Patterson Joseph as 11! I won’t go around saying “but we didn’t” to anyone bringing it up.

At the end of the day we have no idea what goes on behind closed doors and why certain decisions are made and what not. We all have our own opinions and that’s fine.

Ah, cause I remember thinking that the submarine could have feasibly been a UNIT (or Counter Measures) one without breaking stuff on my first listen.
