A place for Doctor Who shippers to express their feelings towards pairings they like or are interested in.
I am a giant shipper. More often than not, shipping is what determines whether I’ll be in a fandom or not. It isn’t why I start a piece of media, but it is what makes me stay involved.
My main ship is Six/Peri, but I also like a couple of Four pairings and some miscellaneous Six ones. Perimem’s also appealing. In New Who, I like Twelve/Clara and Nine/Rose.
Apart from them I don’t really have any ships in that sense, shipping is more a lense to me with which I can look at fiction, so with pretty much everyone else it’s a nice narrative tool for fic or a lense through which I can look at a relationship, but I could take it or leave it
Timepetals was like the main one I really cared about when I first watched the show and I still have much love for it even if there are others that I’ve come to like a lot more.
12clara is one that I think about constantly and is a top 3 ship for me but I just don’t tend to really talk about much for some reason.
Thasmin has obviously been the biggest one for me. I love them and their story so much and it’s also what really brought me back into fandom spaces and how I’ve met some of my best friends. The like hyperfixation on them has been kinda dormant recently, but 13DAs starting soon will surely bring it back in full force.
Thoschei is one that I fw in like a more academic way (they’re sooooo divorced and that informs a lot of their relationship) but I’m never really into like fanfiction that actually puts them together in any way.
As might be guessed by my prp, Perimem is my main ship right now. I’m literally so insane about them and that’s kinda a struggle when there’s like no content for them lol. I’ve been working on writing something with them (though who knows if I’ll ever finish it, I usually don’t, but just writing is nice sometimes) and I’m nearing the end of a relisten to all of their audios after which I might just start another relisten.
Perimem’s a recent favorite of mine, too. I was remiss to add it earlier. I’d write more romance stories about them, but I don’t have any ideas currently. I think that’s a ship I’d rather read about than write.
I am constantly having ideas about them I’m just not really much of a writer so don’t know if I’ll ever actually write most of them. Unfortunately my main creative outlet for ships and fandom stuff is usually making edits and that doesn’t work so well with audio characters
Most saliently of course its been Lussa AKA Nyssa x Luvic. I don’t care much for Nyssa being the last of her kind, so i have a lot of thoughts on what an alive Traken would be like.
Other ships are Deedrix x Caris or Margaret Blaine (pre slitheen) x harriet jones.
Oh and I forgot to mention YazPeri, my favorite crack ship which started as being a fun little ship that was kinda a lens for me thinking about Thasmin stuff, but then became also about Perimem and is now a little more emotionally devastating to me actually
Danny Pink deserved better than Clara. He’s not blond, but I think he and Peri would’ve made a beautiful couple. Intelligent, good with kids, and a protector? Sign her up!
I am very much a multi-shipper. I’ll have my favourites, sure, but I’m always open to exploring new and exciting things. On the other hand, there are a lot of pairings where it’s less that I ship them and more that I have eyes. For example, 12Clara. I don’t really engage in the fandom or make anything for them, but it’s obvious they have something going on.
Surprisingly, I’ve never really been interested in shipping in main Doctor Who (both New and Classic). Maybe I just got into it too young. Torchwood is where it’s at. Surprisingly, I don’t have a lot of interest in Janto (Jack/Ianto). I wrote a lot for them when first joining the fandom but fell off the wagon a little, for two major reasons. One, I don’t really enjoy canon ships; slow burn and pining are my bread and butter, and the way Janto seem to have just jumped right into it leaves me with very little room to mess around. The second issue is that a lot of Janto fans could not care less about the rest of the show or characters, and I find that really annoying and don’t particularly want to be associated with them. This has all lead to my main Torchwood ship actually being Johnto (John Hart/Ianto). It’s a lot of fun, they have so many parallels and Jack haunts the narrative like a ghost.
First of all, I don’t let canon dictate what I can and cannot ship. Lots of people ship characters who have never interacted and have said multiple times to not be attracted to the gender of the other person. It’s actually the norm for ships to be two straight men.
And second, I don’t believe him. Ianto is canonically a lying liar who lies. Why should this be any different?
The conversation about the Doctor knowing when his companions will pass away (in the BF General Discussion chat) reminds me of something that’s always in the back of my mind when I’m thinking about Six/Peri[1] in a domestic sense. It’s pretty devastating for the Doctor (and Peri), knowing that they can expand their family all they’d like, but their children, being half-Time Lord, will live on with him while her lifespan is significantly shorter.
This isn’t mitigated in human!Doctor AUs either, sadly (at least in the way I do them).
technically this applies to any Doctor/non-immortal character ship ↩︎
