Sequels to Season 1

Now that Season 1 is out and you’ve all had to some time to mull, what episode would you like a ‘Sequel’ too.

By Sequel I mean revisiting the same story thread, setting or supporting cast. ‘Planet of the Ood’ to ‘The Impossible Planet’; ‘The Zygon Invasion’ to ‘The Day of the Doctor’; ‘Gridlock’ to ‘New Earth’.

You could expand a story you really loved or try to address issues with one that wasn’t your fav.

I think Rogue is the obvious answer here. Bring the character back and develop the relationship between Rogue and Fifteen.

Maybe The Devil’s Chord? In terms of delving deeper into the Pantheon of Gods, with new Gods challenging the Doctor.

73 Yards doesn’t need a sequel (despite what @BillFiler is about to tell you) because it is meant to be ambiguous.

I really don’t want that. I am tired of the Pantheon of Gods.

I want a sequel to Rogue!

I probably fall into this camp too. I think I sequel that gave slightly more explanation could retroactively make the episode more enjoyable for me.

I’d like to see Maestro again. I do really love Jinx. Would like to see another episode in music history but maybe with a smaller band so they could actually use some licensed music.

I know that that is the point, that kind of storytelling is just not that appealing to me :slightly_smiling_face:

Find Rogue! But maybe wait to season 3.

And go visit Splice from Boom.

Not much “sequel material” in season 1 the way I see it :slightly_smiling_face: But plenty more of Ruby Sunday’s story to be told.

Just never show me Maestro again…

I think that they had the chance to make a semi-sequel during the season finale but did not do that. Now it feels too late.

Going through the season:

  1. Space Babies - What would you even do a sequel with here?
  2. The Devil’s Chord - I’d love Maestro back for a true musical episode (maybe with some good songs :P)
  3. Boom - I think we’re sort of getting this with Joy to the World and Villengard appearing again, something more with them would be good, also generally I really like the idea of the Anglican Marines, less want a sequel, more think they’re a fun part of worldbuilding that’d be nice to crop up again every so often like in 11’s run
  4. 73 Yards - I think Ap Gwilliam as a character/idea is ripe for more exploration, I definitely don’t want any of the mystery/‘monster’ of the episode to be explored, but that setting is one that’d be fun to come back to
  5. Dot and Bubble - I don’t think it needs a sequel at all, I think it’s perfect as a self contained episode. I could see some shorts about the people of finetime after the episode, but not anything apart from that.
  6. Rogue - Absolutely needs a sequel, bring back Rogue as 15’s Jack/River
  7. Legend of Ruby Sunday/Empire of Death - I mean, we’re definitely coming back to this setting again which I’m all for. More exploration of the pantheon would be nice, come on RTD, give us the Trickster

I think they will be back in season two!

Definitely. I want a spin-off of Rogue, so we find out his backstory, and then I want him to come back to the main show. Everyone is saying he’s a bit of a Jack Harkness replacement. That would be awesome!

I agree with this too, although it would probably need Moffat to keep coming back to write them (which I am totally fine with). I really like the soldiers of the church, think there’s lots more that can be done here, and I liked how the Church of the Papal Mainframe became the “big bad” in Eleven’s run, so maybe the Anglican Marines could have a big part to play too.

Also maybe they used River a few more times for missions when she was in Stormcage it could be a way of seeing her again :pray: no she’s not all I think about!

Dot and Bubble I agree doesn’t need a sequel but I’d love to see another cameo of the Mantraps, they were a really cool monster

Rogue definitely seems like he’ll be back. I hope they lean into the hints of nerdiness shown in the episode (like basing his name off of D&D) as a point of difference from River and Jack.

The only issue I have with Rogue returning is the danger of creating a romantic relationship for the Doctor. I just don’t think it’s something the show needs. It’s one of the things that’s always set the show apart from others. It was fine as a one off (although as I’ve said before it dominates too many scenes) but I wouldn’t want more of it if I’m honest.

Can we just get an episode of the tardis team all just sitting down to play D&D5e?

Actually now that I think about it, I wonder what classes each doctor would play

Make that topic!

And I would much rather have them play one of the editions where they used THAC0. Just have a scene where they are trying to describe that to bewildered companions

Fair point, will do!

Hard same. I don’t particularly want to see the Doctor romancing anyone, and Rogue was sweet but I didn’t really enjoy the episode and I’m not hankering for a repeat.

Honestly I don’t think much from Season 1 needs revisiting at all. Most of those episodes stood just fine as they were.

I will take this all back if we get the Trickster though. RTD you can do anything if we get the Trickster idc

Agreed (said in the Seventh Doctor’s voice )

Am I alone in not getting the love for the Trickster? I felt it was a very diminishing returns villain…
