Joy to the World! I know that a lot of people did not like this one. I really did.
I think the idea of a time hotel is really good, and I think that they did a great job with it. The different doors that had different easter eggs were great. I also liked the rooms that we got to see, a perfect blend of different time and styles.
I love the year with Anita; it felt like a mature version of Power of Three, showing that the Doctor has grown since then. He was able to enjoy and grow by standing still. Perfect!
I also liked the controversial bits as well. The COVID stuff was greatly executed and showed a lot of anger and sadness from that period without being disrespectful to those who suffered. I also like that Joy becomes that star. I am not religious, but to me, it was done vaguely enough to make it work both as a religious thing and not. I think that if we had seen more with Jesus and stuff, then it would have been wrongly handled, but this was the perfect amount.
There are just so many good moments in this episode. I really liked it. I stand by my 4.5/5 rating.
I am so hyped for season 2 after rewatching all of RTD2! I am so happy that RTD came back because I love his vision for Doctor Who. He might do some strange things, but as a whole, he is a great showrunner, and I am so excited and ready for more!
It would be nice to see Rogue again, but I feel it should be done with 15 rather than a future Doctor (if it even happens). Itād be nice to see some continuation of the two characters.
But I have a disappointing feeling Rogue is this eraās Jenny - a character with potential and an open ending, but who we just never see again. Would be nice to be proved wrong though!
I hope that Rogue will be brought back (it was left sort of open-ended, and when I talked to Kate Herron and Briony Redman at Gallifrey One, they both said they wanted him to come back), but most characters played by guest stars sadly donāt return (and Iām sure Jonathan Groff is busy). But if Sutekh can come back 49 years later, I suppose that anything is possible.
Quite right too. The wonderful thing about DW is that it can give us goofy fun and bleak darkness in the same season without feeling like two different shows. I mean, series 4 gave us Partners in Crime and The Unicorn and the Wasp (both full of lightness and comedy) AND Midnight and Turn Left (two of the bleakest episodes ever).
That wonderful diversity of tone and story continues to this day, and is a big part of why I love this show so very much.
Thatās what Iām hoping weāre headed for!! It would be so cool, especially if 3 seasons is all we get of Ncuti. A really nice combo for his potentially final season!!
Iād especially find this nice because, though I enjoy later addition companions (in a Doctorās 3rd series) like Bill and Dan, I think it feels a bit better when Doctors get to keep building their relationships with companions over the course of their whole run
