Recommendation Corner!

Eight wise Id recommend Doom Coalition 1! Spin off wise, Lady Christina is good, and Torchwood too especially S5-7 (aliens among us, god among us, among us). New Who Doctor wise there’s not a lot but 11DC’s are fab!

If you like the New Who flavour of hour long episodes, I’d recommend starting either with Lucie Miller (Blood of the Daleks is her first story) or Doom Coalition of the boxsets.

Of the Main Range, some select Six stories I like are The One Doctor, The Wrong Doctors, The Marian Conspiracy, The Holy Terror, The Pirates, The Wormery. Any of those you could jump into with no context.

And Counter-Measures is always good to listen to in the car  I would say Gallifrey but honestly if you’re more familiar with the New Who format and flavour, I’d suggest CM over it because yes Gallifrey is great but it also meanders and can get a bit long winded

Classic Doctors, New Monsters has some great stuff. The Marian Conspiracy is good and is followed by Spectre of Lanyon Moor and then The Apocalypse Element if you want to start on Six. The three Out of Time releases are good if you’re looking for modern stuff. The Eleventh Doctor Chronicles are really good (the Valerie arc is Volumes 3, 4, Broken Hearts, 5, 6). UNIT: Extinction is the first Kate/Osgood set and is essentially a UNIT action blockbuster.

For 8 I’d reccomend starting with either Storm Warning from the main range (more of a classic series feel), or Doom Coalition from the boxsets (more of a modern series feel). The 11th Doctor Chronicles are also extremely good (volume 3 and onward, including Broken Hearts, is the Valerie stuff you may have heard about). The War Doctor stuff with Jonathan Carley is also very good, if you’re into that

For spin offs, I love the War Master range, and Dark Gallifrey is mostly pretty good

It’s probably worth asking here how long the car ride is, and how much you care about story arcs, going in order, and skipping stories

Does anyone know of any good places to start with Six’s EU?

In what sense? What are you looking for and what have you done already? Also what medium are you seeking?

I quite like the Hebe arc. Its 4 boxsets with 3 episodes in each, new who format in terms of runtime. It was my first proper experience with his range as opposed to cameos in stuff such as The Diary of River Song. Equally, I’ve went back and started doing the monthly/main range, and his stories with Evelyn are incredible.

I’m not too fussed, but I would like to try something from each.

The short stories Something Borrowed and Interstitial Insecurity, and the audios The Sirens of Time and Judoon in Chains. (I own a copy of Players but am yet to read it as I am unaware if it has any requirements.)

Stories with good Peri content would be nice.

On audio, I find Whispers of Terror (MR#3) to be a good 6/Peri story.

For comics his DWM run with Frobisher is well liked and Peri does later join them

There are many Points in his EU, that I could recommend:
If you like the DWM Comics, I do think you might like his Run of Comics. There is in total around 3 Collections, the last one of those ‘The Age of Chaos’ is a much longer one penned by Colin himself. Personally speaking, while not every Story hit the Nail, I found them to be quite enjoyable and a great Comic Read, one of my favorite Eras of the DWM in fact.
There are the Big Finish Prose Short Trips, which some of which I highly recommend. Some are even written by Rob Shearman, in general those Collections can be sometimes very hit-and-miss, but I think the great ones really outshines the poor Outings. Although I am sure you do rather do them when you are familiar enough with all the classic Doctors.
And of course Big Finish, really I echo the Recommendation of the Evelyn ‘Arc’, the first of few you can listen to for free on Spotify and probably one other Sites. Some Stories like Jubilee & Marian Conspiracy, the latter is the Starting Point for her.)
If you want more Peri & Six the Monthlies got you covered outside of some later releases (way in the 100+) most work standalone enough for you to jump in and out. Oh and keep an Eye on Nev Fountain, he is basically the Writer behind the most beloved Peri & Six Stories in the Audios.
Boxsetwise the Sixth doctor and Peri Vol 1 might interest you!
As for Monthlies shoutout to whispers of terror, which I thought was a really good one for them at the early BF Days.
There is probably more to it but my knowledge on Sixies Eu is more limited than I would like it to be, hope it helps tho!

Players was my first DW novel, and I think it’s a good one. There aren’t any requirements. Below are my suggestions for some Six/Peri stories that can be interpreted as more on the shippier side. I also included some “regular” stories, but it was starting to turn into everything I’ve ever rated 4/5 stars, so I culled a few (mainly from the audio section).

Audios: …ish (this is the only free one), Her Final Flight (only after you’ve finished Peri’s TV run), The Reaping (further insight on Peri’s family and friends), Year of the Pig (Six and Peri on holiday), Song of the Megaptera (a bit of hurt/comfort), the Breaking Bubbles set, The Widow’s Assassin (insight into her life on Krontep and Six and Peri’s relationship), Masters of Earth (some hurt/comfort and he’s hyper-protective of her), Memories of a Tyrant (more insight on Peri’s childhood), The Ultimate Evil (the first part is very cute as they’re deciding where to go on holiday), Blood on Santa’s Claw boxset, Sixth Doctor and Peri Volume 1, Plight of the Pimpernel (based on “The Scarlet Pimpernel”) and the Quin Dilemma (but only once you’ve finished her TV run. It also features Flip, Mel, and Constance, though, so you may wish to defer this until you’ve listened to their audios/watched their episodes).

Audiobooks: Rivers of Death definitely. That’s a BBC Audio and features fake dating (though it’s not heavy-handed). I’d also suggest “Peri and the Piscon Paradox” (only once you’ve finished Peri’s TV run) from BF. “Vigil”, another BBC Audio, is great for shippiness also, but it’s a darker (emotional) audio.

Books: I haven’t read all of the Six and Peri novels yet, but I was pleased with Players and Grave Matter. The former is a pseudo-historical (not pure, IIRC) and also features the Second Doctor and Churchill. Grave Matter is more…goth-y? In terms of ambiance. Think quiet old villages, dark foggy nights, mysterious castles—that sort of thing.

Short Stories: The two stories from Indefinable Magic (“Mardi Gras Massacre” and “Priceless Junk”. The latter’s pretty shippy.) “Turnabout is Fair Play” is fun if you like body-swapping. It’s in Short Trips and Other Stories. Once you’ve completed Peri’s TV run, I’d suggest “The Ruins of Heaven” from Steel Skies. It’s emotional and gives further insight into how they perceive their relationship.

Comics: “Facades” from Prisoners of Time, Age of Chaos (the comic Colin wrote that gave one of the first insights on how Peri’s life would have fared on Krontep. Frobisher is the companion). The Gift, Salad Daze and Changes are my favorite DWM comics with the threesome of Six, Peri, and Frobisher. The first is jazzy and the second is fun if you like Alice in Wonderland.

What kind of ranges do you like/are behind on? Anything caught your eye, and who are your faves that have audios?

I’m all caught up with the Fugitive Doctor, 5th Doctor is the one I ironically have listened the most and also gave some listen to River Song’s Diary. Tried some of sixie as well. What I’ve listened from 1st Doctor was the early David Bradley’s audios, 2nd and 3rd I’ve listened a few of the recent releases, like Deathworld, Braindrain, Zygon Century and the last Classic Doctors New Monsters

Have you delved into Torchwood much? There’s some fab stuff there.

I HAVE NEVEER. I gave a lil glimpse on it, but there’s SO MUCH STUFF, so many storylines (and I’m also avoiding Jack Harkness as well). I might try on with their tie in audio to Zygon Century
