Radios Times Top 30 Classic Who Stories Tournament

To be fair this time I dont hate Spearhead. Both are 4.5/5. I just think the start of Spearhead can have some weird vibes before The Doctor gets to Unit so I lean Sea Devils.

I have them both as 4/5, but according to my MTRR Sea Devils is my favorite Three story, while Spearhead is only in the middle of the pack.

The Seeds of Doom is ground into mulch by The Time Meddler, 17-10. Elsewhere, The Sea Devils are unable to defeat the Nestene Consciousness as Spearhead From Space advances, 26-2.

The Daleks vs. Genesis is quite tricky as they both have wonderful moments and big flaws. I’ve gone with The Daleks because I think it’s underrated and a beautiful thing where Genesis is overrated and sometimes an ugly thing. But the bias that I’ve seen The Daleks six or seven times and Genesis only twice may be coming into play…

DMP and Genesis, by a country mile.

Which is how long compared to a city mile?

Went with the crowd really, DMP and Genesis.

DMP is just a great epic story, with fantastic moments and is about as big as Doctor Who can get. But even in a big story there are individual beautiful moments (Katarina and the stars comes to mind). And Genesis is a bona fide classic. It could be pacier, and there are moments where I find it a bit less exciting, but it is just such an important story and Davros is excellent.

This caused me to stumble onto something very interesting and very British.

A wonderful article!

So a country mile is longer than a city mile.

On the Mass Pike there are, or used to be, signs that were quite loose with how many miles to the city/cities listed. It always made me think about what points were used for the measurement(s), or if they just estimated. I vaguely recall reading an article which explained how they came up with the distances.

I love the phrase “a mile and a buttock”. I think I’m going to start using it when I’m asked how far someplace is.

Reasonable

Also reasonable, although in the past I’m not sure city dwellers would be much better at estimating distances

I’m pretty sure walking a mile in the city might also seem a long way. For a decade I walked either 1.5 or 2 miles to the bus in the morning and 1.5 miles in the afternoon.

The Time Destructor ages The Dæmons to dust as The Daleks’ Master Plan advances to the quarterfinals, 18-9. The Daleks is unable to move when the staic electricity is cut off, allowing Genesis of the Daleks to also advance to the quarterfinals, 21-7.

That first one was hard. I figure Robots of Death will probably win, so I went with Time Meddler. I’m happy with either one moving forward.

The Time Meddler is an easy pick or me. I enjoy it a lot more than The Robots of Death, even though it is probably a better serial.

Inferno is my other choice. It’s, I think, my favourite classic serial, but I like The Daleks’ Master Plan a lot.

The Monk leaves his TARDIS unlocked yet again, which allows The Robots of Death to strand the The Time Meddler on Kaldor, 16-13.

The Daleks forgot to send the Time Destructor to its destination before activating it, so it ages The Daleks’ Master Plan to dust, which allows Inferno to advance to the semifinals, 16-13.
