Radio Times' 20 Best New Who Episodes - Do you agree?

The Return of Doctor Mysterio is finally getting the respect it deserves!!! WOOOOO!!! I’m sure everyone else agrees wholeheartedly…

Taken that way, I can see why most of these are on that list. A lot of them are important even if they’re not that good. I really don’t like Dark Water but it does have the Missy reveal and a major death so I can see why it’s important. And at least two episodes are there because they’re the only episodes for their respective years so fair enough.

There are a few oddities though. I’d have thought Utopia might be more important than Gridlock but who am I to doubt RTD? End of Time for the 2009 is an odd one too. Especially as it would technically only be Part 1 as Part 2 was broadcast in 2010. I’d have picked Waters of Mars personally.

I agree with you that “The Waters of Mars” should be on that list.

Definitely an odd selection. Crazy that some of the generally well-regarded episodes (at least to a casual audience) like Blink and The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances aren’t on there. For sure disagree on a lot of the choices.

I feel like a good chunk of these require a good amount of story context too, so they wouldn’t be the best to start with. I can’t say I’d recommend jumping in at A Good Man Goes to War or The Doctor Falls lol

This review of Remembrance is actually wounding me :sob::sob:

Simon Williams plays the same old upper-class twit […] the alluring Pamela Salem almost makes Rachel breathe (she’s like a blend of former Who companions Barbara and Liz). Her colleague Allison is redundant.

The way this is technically not wrong but like the meanest possible way you could view them :frowning: I love my Allison in ways you’ll never comprehend Radio Times writer :triumph:

Radio Times is (whisper it) pretty much garbage anyway, and exists solely to get as many clicks as it can.

I will not stand for 1 star Gunfighters, 5 star Love and Monsters is an incredible take

With the context of one episode a year, this list seems a lot more sane, and tbh there is a lot that I agree with, then there are the wild out of left field choices that I just can’t get behind , Rosa over Demons smh.

Oh if it’s one from every year (and I’ll go story, not episode) I’d say:
2005 - The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances
2006 - The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit
2007 - Blink
2008 - Midnight
2009 - The Waters of Mars
2010 - Vincent and the Doctor
2011 - The Girl Who Waited
2012 - A Town Called Mercy
2013 - The Day of the Doctor
2014 - Listen Mummy on the Orient Express (it’s close)
2015 - Heaven Sent
2016 - The Return of Doctor Mysterio (the only one)
2017 - World Enough and Time/The Doctor Falls
2018 - Demons of the Punjab
2019 - Resolution (the only one)
2020 - The Haunting of Villa Diodati
2021 - Village of the Angels
2022 - The Power of the Doctor
2023 - Wild Blue Yonder
2024 - Boom

Better title of this topic would be “Radio Times panders to the showrunners” :eyes:

Some weird choices for some of the years for sure…
