Listened to the DVD commentaries for Episodes 1 and 2 today as well as the Whotalk commentary for Episode 2.
Terrance Dicks, Barry Letts, Chris D’oyly John and Katy Manning on the DVD trotting out all the usual stories - Dicks’ obsession with Pertwee’s bouffant even gets an airing. It’s interesting how both Letts and Dicks deny the parallels with entering the common market were intentional - it really isn’t that convincing.
Controversial opinion though - I really wish Katy would stop doing the silly voices. It’s really cringey. I love her and her enthusiasm but please stop!
The Whotalk commentary is Katy and Nick Hobbs (Aggedor) - he seems lovely and is very enthusiastic about the whole thing but there’s a rather awkward bit where he mentions ‘wobbly sets’ and Katy jumps on the comment to defend the show saying it isn’t really true and it’s comparable to most other TV at the time and it wasn’t something people noticed back then. Hadoke joins in a bit because it’s a personal bugbear of his. Hobbs backs down but it was quite a tense bit in a chat which up to that bit was very personable.
I listened to “The Prisoner of Peladon” yesterday. It was a good story and David Troughton is a fantastic narrator. The soundscape was great, those flickering torches in the background set the atmosphere perfectly.
And then I listened to “The Bride of Peladon” this morning. I love that TARDI-BOX Team!
Erimem fit in really well in the Royal court of Peladon. Loved her departure, it was really well done I think. Plus Peri’s last line
I’m 5 minutes into “The Ordeal of Peladon” from the “Peladon” Boxset.

Maybe if you’d spend less time going over the minutiae of Peladon like the Diary of the Second Camera Operator (of Peladon) and other some such you would be making progress towards the Badge of Peladon
Narrated soundtrack Episode 3 this morning and it continues to help me focus on the performances - Katy Manning is so good in this, especially in the scene where she is arguing with the delegates about the Doctor’s death sentence. Alan Bennion also proves he is more than a guy in a rubber suit and it’s brilliant how comfortable Jo is around the Ice Warriors once she knows they are on her side.
Now I’ve listened to the first two Peladon stories from the Peladon Boxset.
I think that if you like that particular “Peladon Vibe™” you’ll like these stories, but on the other hand if you don’t you probably won’t

The Sixth Doctor is absolutely perfect for the setting of Peladon I love how they shift forward in time and examine how Peladon changes in different ways.
Decided to finish off the Pertwee-narrated audiobook as it only had about 30 minutes left - to cover both episodes 3 and 4!
It does the job but it does take some liberties with the story. The main one which leapt out at me was the reason for Izlyr deciding to help the Doctor when he is under the threat of death. In the original he states it is because the Doctor saved his life from the falling statue. But that cliffhanger was cut from this version so Izlyr’s reason is because the Doctor saved Arcturus’s life. It doesn’t really work though because Izlyr earlier states he was never actually in danger because the servo-unit removal only induced a metabolic coma - uncomfortable but not life-threatening.
It also skips the fake out of thinking Ssorg is shooting the Doctor at the climax of Episode 3, going straight to him obliterating Arcturus.
Pertwee does a good Earth Delegate voice for Amazonia.
I think I’ve placed the music stings they use for this one too - I think they’re from Vengeance on Varos. It’s definitely an 80s story.
Aw man if it’s for a badge I guess I have to listen/watch/read all this stuff now too! I do love the og Peladon stories and I have had the Peladon boxset on my to listen pile for ages, so maybe now is the time
This is what annoys me as well! I have so many things I want to watch/read/listen to, and then some people bully us into getting yet another badge we don’t really want but still want because it’s a badge, and we want all of them! It’s driving me crazy!
