Yeah that’s the only thing, when adding them all I always thought “maybe this planet is visited more than once, I’ll add it just in case” but of course they rarely are.
And if they are, it’s usually a sequel or something so related that you don’t need the location filter to find it.
The basic principle for if something should be in the location list is “will this location appear in Whodle at some point and I’ll be trying to figure out which episode it was in?”…
Oh actually maybe we could keep locations for TV episodes because they are quite iconic, but remove them from the audios and books because they are always like Planet Zog.
I suppose it depends on how TARDIS wiki-like we want to be. The same could be said for characters - who should be in the list and who shouldn’t? Who counts as important enough?
Yeah, with characters, either they should be in there so we can quote them, or we should be able to add characters when doing a quote. HG Wells may only be in one episode, but I’m still going to quote him…
BF has many recurring actors who play different parts, many of which are one-offs. It’d be interesting to filter by actors if we have all the one-off characters no one really cares about. On the other hand, Wiki has pages for that.
You can actually do that, although I haven’t added the filter to the list yet because it’s still incomplete. It’s going to be a while yet until we finish it. I need to do some bulk-adding
Eg:
I’m so hesitant to make this possible because we will probably get:
HG Wells
H.G. Wells
H Wells
How does the wiki resolve this? Just someone working to fix problems?
I’m not sure we need one-off characters in the database just because they have a quote.
If you think about the point of characters, it’s to be able to see what else they are featured in, and maybe read some info about them or eventually add to favourites or rate them.
But if it’s just a rather inconsequential character who just happens to speak to the Doctor, do we need all that?
Should a character be added to a story if she is in it but only as a mind projection? This is the thing I talking about:
THEY RAN TO ROSE’S FLAT. WHICH, ROSE NOTED, had a really detailed front door and not much apart from that. The Doctor grabbed the door and heaved it open. Rose was surprised - and also quite surprised that anything now could surprise her - to find her Mum standing in the hall. Really quite an accurate version of Jackie, too. ‘What?’ she looked at them, astonished. 'What’s going on?’ ‘Oh no,’ the Doctor pointed at her. ‘I didn’t imagine you!’ With one blow, he sent her flying. Her body hit the wall, reverted to its true form of a Unit, and spun out through the wall via a trick panel that the Doctor must have just conjured up.
