So, I use the suggest edit form quite a lot, and I’m doing some mod work on it. As many of you do. I believe ever since @shauny add Actors, there have been an increase in suggestions form submitted?
It’s no surprise sometines it takes a long time for my suggestions to get updated. There’s life other than Doctor Who. (!) But I don’t always remember to check — I make so many of them! Maybe some of them got denied but I’ve got no way to know. Therefore, I’m creating this little corner to bully other mods to get on to approve my audio runtime suggestions you know, talk about stuff like how to make Overview and Suggest Edits work better, why you denied someone’s suggestions, give a heads up to the mods when you accidentally submitted something wrong etc.
I’ve been trying to edit the runtime of every audio I finish, as there are a lot of them have a rough number that @shauny guessed. Mainly 30-minutes-yet-never-quite-so-precise Main Range audios and some others with behind-the-scenes stuff (interviews) counted in the audio runtime. Not having the exact runtime bugs me, since it affect this lovely chart:
One trouble I have when looking at edits is that I often have no idea if they are actually right or not. I generally approve the ones I’m sure of or can verify, but I really don’t know a lot of the Big Finish audios and books…
I approve edits several times a day (mostly yours, haha) and add edits on stories I complete. I’m also picky about getting the runtimes correct!
Another thing that annoys me a little is bot being able to add characters and actors that are missing. It’s a minor thing, I know but I’d like to have the database as complete as possible.
Well, I trust that @AlfieSigma and others suggesting edits have their runtimes and pages right, so I can verify them. The other stuff is pretty easy to verify.
That’s part of the problem - most of the time this stuff is wrong on the site because it was wrong or missing on TARDIS Wiki so there’s no way to verify stuff like page count and runtime.
I just assume everyone is checking and so generally approve everything.
I believe 99 is the max the number will go up to. Wow that’s a lot!!
I understand but at the moment it requires more access than I can give to add characters and actors.
A little heads-up to @Muddyviolet — Don’t know about the others but I denied your suggestion on location on The Apocalypse Starts at 6 PM, cuz TARDIS Wiki listed the location as ‘England’ and I don’t think I ever see any story’s location marked as ‘UK’ before
As there are a fair few stories specifically set in Wales and Scotland, it makes sense to use England if it’s England rather than a catch all like the UK.
I’ve logged hundreds of weird planet names, thinking it would be useful if they went back there, but of course Doctor Who rarely goes back to the same planet twice unless it’s Earth, Skaro, or Pelodon.
Because it got so huge, the Locations filter currently only does very few things. I could put back the different countries and towns of Earth, which are much more interesting, if I removed the weird planets.
So I’m wondering if I should maybe remove them and just put “Alien planet” or something (I have “Exoplanets” and meant to put all the alien planets under that but it’s a pretty big job).
I just don’t know if it’s currently more complicated than it needs to be? Every location added to the database that no-one cares about is a waste of resources (it may seem trivial but all the indexing of locations in the background is quite big)
