New Zygon Series Announced

Big Finish just announced a anthology series revolving around a Zygon Invasion of the 20th Century.

Ooh nice! Always exciting for a new range to be released, even if for a moment I thought it was going to be based on this:

Zygon

I like the look of that, especially the shifting times it is set. Love a good Zygon story (wonder if they’ll be sneaky and tie any of it into the Elizabeth bit in The Day of the Doctor?).

I have to finish The Bodysnatchers before this release!

Kinda hope this is set in the 21st century tho. I’d like to see an ordinary zygon living a quite life before the event in The Zygon Invasion/The Zygon Inversion.

Looks like it’ll be 20th Century. The first set is 1901, 1935 and 1957.

Trust me, nobody has to (or should) read The Bodysnatchers

I didn’t mind the Bodysnatchers, it wasn’t the greatest novel, but it wasn’t bad.

My excitement is stifled a bit by learning that one of the writers is effectively Gareth Roberts 2.0 (and good mates with Roberts to boot) :slightly_frowning_face:

I noticed that too. Why is he still on their staff?

Now this looks genuinely exciting. Gotta say that, between Zygon Century and the start of Thirteenth Doctor audios, 2025 is looking to be a pretty special year if Big Finish releases! Looks like we’ll have a lot of timey-wimey drama to discuss in Audio Club next year. Maybe Broton will pop up to wave a tentacle? :zygon: :rainbow_flag:

Please educate me? I know the issues with Roberts but which of the writers are you referring to here?

Trevor Baxendale

I hadn’t heard about him before (relatively new to Big Finish), so I checked out his Twitter, and yeah, didn’t take much scrolling to find him agreeing with Gareth Roberts about LGBT+ people being a cult, retweeting What Is A Woman UK, and boosting a post about Glastonbury “getting a bit woke” because there were people there with Palestinian flags.

Sigh.

That was my first thought as well

Thank you both. I didn’t know that and those views are very… urgggh! Just… why? :frowning:

I have some nasty suspicions for what a tranaphobe will do with an “evil shapeshifter” plot. The fact that the Zygons’ last tv apperance also made explicit comparisons to displaced refugees, doesn’t fill me with confidence either

I misread the title as “New Amazon Series Announced” and got a bit confused

Then, I thought this referred to a Zygon spin-off on TV and got excited (I didn’t notice the flairs!).

Then I understood what was going on - and I’m still excited! The premise sounds intriguing, so I hope they deliver!

Same for me. I’m not buying it on those grounds. If Big Finish fans hadn’t previosly made a fuss when they hired Baxendale for the War Master range, id buy and hope they dont employ him again. But this time I won’t.

The issues surrounding him were bought to Big Finish’s attention and they’ve not listened.

Its a shame its a zygon series too. You could tell stories about issues like identity, dysmorphia and the likes through them, so handing them to a deeply transphobic writer is infuriating.

Plus folk horror is such a good genre imo, honestly annoyed with this.

Having a transphobic writer on this is not the best news on the day before Trans Pride

I liked it :frowning:
