Crossover with TV Time - (but not Doctor Who) - started Smash for the fifth(?) time last night. Hugely recommended for musical theatre fans. It’s a bit like Glee in that people burst into random pop songs in a sometimes fun and often cringe-worthy way, but it’s (IMO) far classier than Glee and half of the music is original. (The show is about the development of a new Broadway musical and the songs in said musical are written in the real world by Shaiman & Wittman (Hairspray, Catch Me If You Can, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (and Rogers mentioned directly above!)). Season Two then looks at the development of that musical in opposition to another new musical, with the songs in that musical written by various big names like Joe Iconis, Drew Gasparini, Pasek & Paul). The cast is nuts with the likes of Christian Borle, Megan Hilty, Leslie Odom Jr, Jeremy Jordan and Krysta Rodriguez as regulars, with recurring guest stars like Bernadette Peters, Will Chase and QUEEN Jennifer Hudson. I’m sure plenty of people on this thread know Smash already but I thought I’d give the elevator pitch for anyone who doesn’t because it’s just full of glorious, campy musical goodness
