Couldn’t find a thread about this so I made my own. My mom got me into musicals back in 2018 and we’ve been to a lot of plays; Wicked, Phantom of the Opera, Beauty and the Beast, Come Away, Afterwords and Les Miserables. I’ve also listened to a few on my own and shared some of them on the forum.
What are your favorite musicals? How long have you’ve been watching/listening to them? Discuss anything you want about musicals.
I’m very partial to a muscial ! I love to sing in the car and my best friend and I love to go to the theatre to see them
Some of my favourites are Waitress, Fun Home, Come From Away, Wicked; and unironically one of THE greatest theatrical experiences I have EVER had was seeing Shrek the Musical with said best friend <333
I am mostly not a musicals person (I love music and theatre, and I love when music and theatre are combined — it’s just that the style of singing in most musicals doesn’t do much for me) but I love Les Miserables more than I can say!!!
I haven’t watched many musicals and after my small theatre phase a few years ago, I’ve been neglecting watching any more (though the interest is still mildly there). I think operas are more aligned with what I’m into, though.
My favorite musical is Pierre, Natasha, and the Great Comet of 1812, but my favorite song from one is “Waving Through a Window” from Dear Evan Hansen.
Favorite operas to date are Le Boheme and Pagliacci.
Favorite pantos are Dick Whittington and the JNT version of Cinderella.
Wicked is also one of my favorites. I saw it in New York with my mom when we were visiting one summer. All of the songs are amazing and the story is great. I’m not a huge fan of the Wizard of Oz so it was surprising on how much I loved it.
Sadly not seen many in person mostly in film. Love Mamma Mia (both) and Wicked a great deal! Rocketman, Greatest Showman, Tick Tick Boom as some others I really like!
I don’t watch a huge number of musicals, but I do like them generally, and am in my school musical. I have recently been really into Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog, which may not technically be classified as a musical, but is still really fun
It depends on how we classify Musicals, admittedly I was never at a Musical Theater Show (sadly, I wish I was, maybe one day!), but if we count the Medium of Film, there are quite a few favorites for me, I’d love Singin in the Rain, even if it’s probably a cliché choice by now, but I adore it. There are also plenty of great ones by Disney, and I am sure probably more I cannot think of.
My Opinion on Musical is a weird one, there are some I adore, some I really don’t and lots who I sit indifferent about, so I don’t know rather one can classify me as a Musical Fan, although maybe one day I will be if I have seen more.
My mom and my sister are both very into theatre so I, by association, have also come to love musicals! My favourites are Chicago, Cabaret, and Mary Poppins (screen and stage versions). In high school I was in the pit band for Beauty and the Beast and The Addams Family so they have a special place in my heart too.
I saw Come From Away with the original cast live in Toronto many years ago and that was an amazing show, and means even more to me because I’m from the east coast of Canada
I’m not super big into musicals (though i do like them) but my lesbian awakening was the girl who played the dragon in my middle schools production of shrek the musical. Sircarolyns post reminded me of that
My favorite has to be Company. I have three versions on my mp3 player, and I ordered them by track in a big playlist so I can listen to each song three times everytime
