Yep I’ll do it now

It’s time for some Bond, James Bond :cocktail:

Casino Royale :sunglasses: (The one with Daniel Craig, not the one from 1967)

One of the best in that series

It could’ve been the one from the 50s with the American Jimmy Bond as well  it’s not very good!

Anyway, I hope to catch up on some movies this month. Rewatch Joker before the new one and The Batman before the new spin-off The Penguin. Perhaps I’ll watch a couple of horror movies as well to celebrate the season!

And here I was thinking I had seen all the Bond there was.
But it seems like a kind soul has uploaded it to YouTube

It’s the first Bond adaptation, made for TV m, I believe. And with an American Bond and a British Leiter, for some reason, and Peter Lorre as a pretty book-accurate Le Chiffre.

American Bond and British Leiter?
That’s a choice…

Mads Mikkelsen is great as Le Chiffre but the book version is the superior one for sure.

Also having seen Mads Mikkelsen in the Danish movie “The Green Butchers” as Svend Sved (Svend Sweat), it is a bit difficult to take him serious in roles he had around that time.

Just me in the house for the evening, I might actually go for two 007 movies

Putting on Quantum of Solace now because I really want to get to Skyfall, I mean Spyfall, no wait errr…

Jack White and Alicia Keys together for the Bond song, well it doesn’t quite work for me alas.

Ooh, QoS is such a step down in quality after CR. The horrible shaky cam action scenes that were all the rage at the time always annoy me - you can’t see a thing! And the writer’s strike didn’t help either, as Craig and the director literally had to make up parts of the story on the set. The theme song is one of the lesser ones, but I don’t dislike it as much now as when I first heard it.

Skyfall, on the other hand, is one of the best Bond movies. I remember going to the cinema with my dad on opening night in 2012 (it was snowing heavily that day, a literal skyfall if you will) and enjoying it immensely - and I still do.

The best thing about this movie is how it evolves the relationship between Bond and M.
I always think that Camille basically could be cut from the movie and nothing would be lost, and she just happens to be ex-Bolivian secret service suddenly in the final act of the movie.

Jesper Christensen as Mr. White is so weird to me as he did Danish kids movies when I was a kid. He’ll always be Nanna’s dad to me :slightly_smiling_face:

Skyfall is amazing!! And have a much better Bond song (though that still doesn’t hold a candle to “Nobody does it better” by Carly Simon from “The Spy who loved me”)

Oh yeah, the Craig movies have a thing for Danish/Nordic actors  Mads in CR, Jesper in the first three, Ola Rapace in Skyfall, and David Dencik in No Time to Die.

Le Chiffre was the first role I saw Mads in, so it’s difficult for me to see him act in anything else, I can only think of him in the torture scene

Aaah, you’re one of those mainstreamers who like Nobody Does It Better  I’m a sucker for The Living Daylights, GoldenEye, and Tomorrow Never Dies. And You Know My Name from CR, it’s such a banger!

Most Bond songs are actually rather good when it comes down to it (Not you Die Another Day by Madonna :eyes:)

Is that a mainstream opinion about “Nobody does it better”? That’s okay because it is fantastic and beautiful.

“You only live twice” is another favourite, oh and “The man with the Golden Gun” - great songs! And “The Writing’s on the wall” I’ve really come to love. Not quite sure about the Billie Eilish one (but then I don’t really enjoy her music anyway…)

I think it is telling about QoS that I am halfway focussing on writing a post about Bond songs :grimacing::grin:

Whoever wrote “Die Another Day” and Madonna should be made to watch The Web Planet on 0.5 speed on a loop for 24 hours straight for inflicting that atrocity on our ears…

I don’t know, but it feels like most people like it a lot! It’s fine, but I enjoy the faster songs a bit mote and they had a bit too many ballads in a row during the Moore era.

Yes! And Madonna doubly so, because she’s even worse in her short cameo role in the film :face_with_peeking_eye: but Die Another Day overall is certainly a different Bond film

Would you believe that Die Another Day was written by the same two guys who wrote every Craig movie? Talk about a major change in quality from Die to Casino

No I would not believe that :flushed:
It must be Zygon body doubles or something like that because that does not add up…

The Craig Bond films all blur into one for me and I’ve no idea if I’ve seen them all. I know I’ve watched Casino. Which one does M die in? I’ve seen that one.

Skyfall :slightly_smiling_face: And I got it on right now

True, I’d rather watch DAD than Casino or any Craig Bond apart from Skyfall.

Well, that’s a take! Please tell us more, I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who prefers DAD over CR (or the other Craigs, for thet matter…).

The Craig era just isn’t for me, DAD isn’t great but its fun & I just prefer the fun style of Bond films. The Craig era is just too dour for me, apart from Skyfall they don’t have any memorable set-pieces nor do I find them entertaining.
