Look Up in the Sky - the DC Thread

Correct me, if I am wrong, but while we have Marvel covered in another Thread, there is also DC and surprisingly there has been no Thread (at least as far as I could find). So i decided to give it a go and what better time than today?

So, starting off this Thread: What are your Opinions on the new Superman Teaser Trailer? Are you excited? What did you like or didn’t like, let us know!

I was thinking everything looked exactly like Man of Steel, but then we get Hawkgirl, Mister Terrific, Lex Luthor, and Superdog (I think?)!

This looks quite interesting.

It could either be very good or very bad.

I’m very excited, looks like it has peak Superman vibes. I’ve also liked Gunns other superhero stuff so think it will be good

Thank you!

I knew it, just forgot the name for some reason.

It looks fine. The costume is closer to the comics than Man of Steel. I might catch it on DVD from the library, maybe. I’ve kinda lost interest in superheroes. And I’m just not a theater-goer anyway.

Yeah, on the same page as you. It could be a very good time, and really my only big concern was that Gunn might have gone a similar route here as he did in previous of his Movies (which are all very good, but wouldn’t fit with a Character like Superman). Overall, I have high hopes

I like DC’s take on superheroes in general, but the DCEU as a whole has been very disappointing. The only thing that keeps me somewhat intrigued about this is that Gunn is involved, as he has a deep understanding of and love for superheroes, both Marvel and DC. I loved his Guardians movies and liked Peacemaker, so this has the potential to be good. Superman is a difficult character to make interesting on film, and most movies so far haven’t been able to do it (the 1978 film excluded), but if anyone can do it, it’s Gunn!

Is this new Superman movie the first entry in the new “cinematic universe”? Or does some previous stuff count as “canon”.

I haven’t followed closely and have seen several different explanations of it…

So the old DCEU, starting with Man of Steel, is over.

This is the first in a new DCEU, (though I think the Creature Commandos series is part of it, but don’t even know if that’s out yet).

Other DC films and series not related to the DCEU will go out under the Elseworlds title.

(I think all that’s right.)

I said it in the other thread, but I’m genuinely so excited for this

It has similarities to Man of Steel I guess, but you can tell that Gunn gets Superman in a way that Snyder never did

It’s like halfway through releasing (I keep meaning to watch it

Yes, this movie is basically the first major release of the new DCEU. Exactly how tightly everything will connect is still unclear.

I’ve never been a big fan of Superman. I find it really dull, every movie is exactly the same to me. They just keep rebooting it over and over.

See! Another reboot!

My other half will probably want to go see it because he likes Superman. One of our first dates was to go and see Superman Returns at the cinema (yes in 2006! We’ve been together a long time…)

But I’m just so disinterested in this and pretty much all of DC. Sorry to be a downer lol.

It’s OK, I’m not really keen on Superman either.

Tell that to Sony/Marvel, who rebooted Spider-Man three times in 15 years :joy:

Thanks.
I lost all interest in the “old” DCEU after Superman V Batman - that movie just left me so cold…

But that’s okay because Spider-Man is awesome!!

The best DC movies are the Reeve Superman films, the Keaton Batman movies, the Dark Knight Trilogy and Wonder Woman. The rest of the DCEU is either bad or very average.

Aren’t you forgetting something?

In all seriousness though, imo The Batman was better than Batman '89 and The Dark Knight (and the other films in each franchise)
