Probably the one I’ve seen the most is the George Clooney one
I actually forgot about The Batman, and that’s a movie I liked.
And Joker, but that barely feels like a DV movie.
I’ve never watched The Lego Batman movie, so can’t say anything about it.
It’s campy and not very good, but it’s fun to watch now and then because of that.
I enjoyed the first Aquaman movie, it was a lot of fun.
It’s one of the better ones, for sure. I just never found Aquaman a very compelling character. Namor is better, but Black Panther 2 did him dirty.
This is my favourite DC movie.
Other favourites are:
- The Batman
- Dark Knight Rises (yes, this is my fav of the Nolan trilogy)
- Constantine
- Watchmen
I have a soft spot for more R-rated films. I also don’t mind longer pieces. I’m generally not a fan of action films. They bore me like musicals. Action scene/song, then plot, more action/song, some plot.
The Snyder Cut: I enjoy living in this world more than the re-cut. It’s a character piece. Snyder films are like Marmite, and I happen to like them. He can a bit too much into style-over-substance, but he is less offensive to my tastes than Michael Bay.
The Batman: Time, and sequels, will tell if this one stays in my list. I do like the long mood pieces that are in this one. Gives me Batman: The Animated Series vibes. Great performances all around. Also, Penguin was great. Can’t wait for more.
Dark Knight Rises: The controversial favourite. I just prefer it to Dark Knight. The Joker stuff is great in it, but it doesn’t do a lot for me on re-watches. Rises is very much a Bane film, which is fine by me, as he is a favourite of mine in the comics.
Constantine: Finally getting it dues, and a sequel. I’ve always enjoyed this campy take on Hellblazer. I just wish they had gone a bit harder with it.
Watchmen: An influential comic from my youth, faithfully adapted, for the most part. I really enjoy this. Like others on my list, this is a real character piece. The plot is an excuse to spend time with characters and the world.
Just some DC Movie rambles.
WE FINALLY AGREE ON SOMETHING!!!
(except Superman 3 which is redeemable in my book because it gave me the chills and lodged in my childhood trauma from first watch till this day).
I remember being so bored watching Superman Returns and to this day I haven’t watched a single Snyderverse film. (Oh apart from the Batman Begins trilogy if they count - I have no idea).
They do not. They’re a separate thing, before the Snyderverse.
Surely there are other things we agree on?
If I’ve seen the original Superman movies I must have been busy because I can’t remember a single thing. Oh I do remember that he flew around the earth fast and rewound time in one of them because it annoyed me that’s not how time travel works!
Nothing important (you know, like who is the best space archaeologist).
Ahh yes, you have a 7ARDSG, so you obviously know how time travel works
But you remember that scene correctly, it’s in the first one.
You don’t remember where the woman gets caught in the computer and turned into a robot with metal and wires clamping to her body and face?
NIGHTMARE FUEL!
Nope, mustn’t have seen that one! I’m sure I’d remember that.
Big Agree. I am excited about this new Universe, since I always prefer doing some more creative bits with a superheroes cinematic universe (as in we delve into more genres besides action).
Plus I am ready for another Superman, this time hopefully less Snyder-esque (minus some similarities, which to be honest you couldn’t escape regardless)
The trailer got me when Superman whistled and Krypto was plowing through the ice. So mega cool.
One of the first movies I ever watched ‘in theater’ was Superman IV. (More precisely, they put a film projector in a big room in the local kindergarten and made a movie night. I still remember how excited mini-me was back then. Different times back then, only 3 channels on TV and no internet. )
I ‘grew up’ with DC Comics, borrowed from a neighbor who had the large format translations Ehapa published in Germany. I guess it was five years later before I got my hands on my first Marvel comic.
So, the IP is special to me, and I’m so looking forward to what James Gunn does with it. Hoping for the best, but of course, we’ll see.
On another note: The DC Universe Infinity App is finally available in Germany and, I think, two or three other European countries. A little bit on the pricey side, but still, nice to have the option.
GlobalComix also has part of the DC backlog in their subscription.
The unavilability of that app is the main reason I don’t read more DC Comics. I’ve used Marvel Unlimtied for years (it’s on a break now, though) and it’s such a great way to discover and read comcis old and new. So I was excited that DC finally got their own digital comics app. But now it’s been years and it’s still not available globally. I don’t understand what makes it so hard for them, when Marvel Unlimited has been available everywhere for years.
Fixed your post.
But to be honest I think DC in general is kind of boring, with Batman as the exception. They rely too much on big god-like beings with in general kind of boring everyday lives. I think that Marvel’s approach often works better. I have always been more interested in what the heroes do between the fights than what they do at the end of the comic/film.
I genuinely think that Smallville is the best Superman adaptation.
My wife used to love Smallville but gave up around Season 4 or 5 I think.
We keep meaning to try our the Lois and Clark thingy with him from Teen Wolf and her from Grimm but haven’t yet got around to it.
My favourite Superman was Dean Cain in The New Adventures. I loved those series (except 4 - 4 was crap). I adored Teri Hatcher!
I did see it to the end but the first couple of seasons was the best.
