Jodie Whittaker and Mandip Gill return to Doctor Who in new Thirteenth Doctor adventures

It really is!

The title may be a reference to the play/film The Lion in Winter about Henry 2nd & Eleanor of Aquitaine. So an historical.

I think there will definitely be some in the course of the series. Big Finish sometimes get dinged for a reliance on them but the mixing of different elements from the vast history of Doctor Who is undoubtedly a massive part of their appeal AND revenue.

There’s a balance to hit of new stories and nostalgia. We’re getting 12 episodes, I think at least 4 will have legacy elements, possibly 2 or 3 with returning monsters. Jodie met Daleks, Cybermen, Sontarans, Weeping Angels and the Master on TV, which I consider to be the Big 5 so it’s a question of which ones there’ll be.

Really excited about this run, can’t wait to see what we get!

She also met the Sea Devils, but I also tend to forget that

The play/film was set at Christmas. So this is going to be 13’s first festive special?

Titan Comics would like a word…

Well, it would be a weird time for it, if it came out second (in September). I guess it could be the third on out, in November.

I think more likely the 4th (January) since that’s their only winter month release

Me too! Jodie and Mandip were fantastic on screen (I feel Mandip/Yaz is unfairly maligned) and am confident there will be plenty to dig into via audio. Plus, there’s a joy in hearing what the Big Finish writers do with the Thirteenth Doctor’s era. New voices are always exciting and I am firmly of the opinion that Big Finish have some real talent currently (two of my current favourites are Lisa McMullin and Tim Foley, so I’d be thrilled if either of them get a crack).

So much potential!

I know im getting ahead of myself but I hope these 12 episodes arent the only things we are getting from them I’d also like some new companions for 13 or hell bring back Graham or Ryan or Dan idk.

I doubt we’ll get Graham or Dan, both are very big comedians so not sure they’d have the time. Then again, stranger things have happened at BF so who knows. I also think this is the beginning of a long journey, a very long journey, for 13 on audio! Its also the perfect era to explore by adding new companions too!! I do though want plenty of this duo together. I like Dan, but I felt robbed that we didn’t get our first fully female TARDIS team on TV and likely wont for some time. I’m glad BF are doing that, but its a shame if the TV show does it that that’ll then be considered “the first time”.

I’m hoping this will be similar to BFs 11 & Valerie adventures, an extra season, between the end of S12 & Flux (S13). In an ideal world we would have got that on TV.

It would be really cool if we now get Thirteen appearing in other ranges as well.

Maybe further down the line. At first I’d like just 13 & Yaz adventures.

For me the dream outside of that would be 13 & 9.

Odds on them doing a Jo Martin crossover at some point, as it’d be true and in-keeping with 13’s era on TV?

I also imagine other crossovers would come later.

Maybe, I’m not a huge fan of all the crossovers.

I do think its the fun of working together that has been the main appeal of doing stuff for BF. They seem to be good friends & like working together. If Mandip had said no I’m not sure Jodie would have said yes.
