ICMG - A 'Counter-Measures' Thread

Catching up finally again, I listened to the Pelage Project, pretty good Stuff, guess Threshold while very solid wasn’t a good Sign how I end up feeling for this Series. Very enjoyable, not sure if I will write a Review for it, since I am not sure where to even begin. Lots of great Moments! For now, I rated it an 8/10 but very tempted to bump it up to a 9. It’s not as superb as the previous one in my Eyes, but still great nonetheless! :star_struck:

And Jae is already a Story ahead of me yet again :sob:! /lh

I was so bang on the money calling Pelage a 8/10 :squinting_face_with_tongue: but I do love it a lot. And State of Emergency… oh boy, it’s a lot.

I’m so happy you’re enjoying!

Threshold: I could talk about this episode all day. It’s complicated to me. I love the eay this one seeds what’s to come without a first time listener even knowing, I love my girl going through the agonies and Rachel being useless to help. And I love love love how fascinating Toby is. The thing about Toby is, CM is basically from Rachel s (and Allison’s) perspective, so we see him as very unfavourable bc they don’t really like him. But if you listen to every other minor character, they’re always saying how polite, how considerate, how charming he is - and this is TRUE! It’s why he and Rachel are so interesting, because she hates his guts for being callous but she respects his dedication to doing what needs to be done. And he respects the absolute pants off her. He’s suchhhh a great character, there are so many layers there.

And that’s even before I say anything about the Waverly family.

The Fifth Citadel: I’m not joking, this is one of the greatest hours of audio drama ever to exist. I need ti go through it for a quotes run, I just haven’t because there are soooo many good ones it’s going to take ages. Allison and Ian are amazing as partners in crime - ‘You’re proposing we break out of a top secret military hospital?’ Yes.’ ‘Good’ - they are SOOO funny and I love thinking about what the ICMG was like before Rachel joined and Allison was The scientific powerhouse. Meanwhile Rachel and Toby are in the underground, and again we see Toby’s manipulations and schemes and Rachel’s cynicism of them, but when she’s not there we also see the heart of him. Everyone gives such a banger performance in this one and the end just breaks my heart.

The Dead Don’t Rise (Who Killed Toby Kinsella Part 2): they are so CUTE!! So ridiculous, I love their unhinged plans, the prince is such a cool character too, and Toby is back! The plan was a little convoluted but so unbelievably them and the other agents were so much fun! THEMS<3

I am really tempted to get into this range… I think I’ll probably need to rewatch Remembrance to get a feel for them again, or maybe I can just go into it straight away.

Do it! A great spin-off.

DO IT!!!

Remembrance is always a good shout but you don’t really need it for the series. The one thing I would recommend listening to at the very least before series 4 is the MR episode 1963: The Assassination Games because there is some kind of major plot bearing stuff in there that isn’t explained anywhere else. Of course

Nothing to see here: Ian is so good in this one, and the identity issues the device causes are so interesting. Allie was so cruel to that gunman though, I feel really sorry for him. really loved this one

Yayy! I did rewatch Remembrance before, both to get their looks properly into my head (I like being able to imagine things better) and also their voices, because I am sometimes really bad at recognizing those, so I personally found it helpful. But you don’t really need it. Like sircarolyn said though, you do need assassination games

I just can’t get over Ian skiing like he thinks he’s James Bond in this one :sob::sob::sob::sob:

Troubled Waters: I LOVE THEM!! An absolutely incredible episode, very creepy, very horrifying, lots of amazing character moments, I adore Rachel and Allison flirting [1], though can we PLEASE stop putting Allison through the horrors. And especially leave her head alone. that would be so nice. Perfect episode in my opinion

  1. shut up. it is. to me ↩︎

The Phoenix Strain: it’s always interesting to experience stories about epidemics/viral outbreaks/etc now. I enjoyed this one, the story is good, although not super strong. All of it is just kind of tragic

It’s probably one of my bottom five episodes though there is plenty to enjoy in it. You haven’t done my actual least favourite episode yet :skull:

I was today years old when I discovered that some of Counter-Measures is on Spotify! Means I don’t have to dig out my old hard drive.

So its time to dive back into this wonderful world. That theme tune is so evocative of the shows of the 60s this series has kinship with. It’s Threshold time!

A Gamble With Time: I am in love with Lady Suzanne Clare. Evil woman!!:star_struck: The whole plot is very clever, I adore the whole undercover thing so much, they are AMAZING, although the ending was a tiny bit unsatisfying, but at least Allison agrees with me on that. I do so hope Lady Suzanne comes back. Amazing episode!!
