Threshold. Fantastic, such a great ‘pilot’ episode for this new series. The core characters are so well defined & acted, not only as individuals but as a team, their personalities provide drama between each other. Toby is a great addition & if you hadn’t seen Remembrance you would assume he’d been in it. He fits in perfectly. The music & sound design captures the era so well, & the spooky soundscape is perfect for audio. The incidental music gives things a real sense of pace. The plot has similarities to the writing of Nigel Kneale, mixing supernatural tropes with sci-fi.
But listening to this for the first time in ages reminded me, I miss Pamela Salem.
I recently did this box set (after having not listend to any CM for quite a while) and I did enjoy it but I found some of the endings a bit abrupt. I think Phoenix Strain was my favourite, with Gamble with Time a close second.
That’s really interesting, because Phoenix Strain was definitely my least favorite of this set. It’s not bad, I rated it 3/5 I think, but it is just fine where the others are great for me. Troubled waters and A Gamble With Time are definitely my favourites of this set and maybe of all of it too
The Splintered Man: I love it. Great twists, the team continues to be amazing, especially as they’re kind of going on holiday here, like excuse me, Allison packed Rachel’s bag ?, and Rachel really got me in my feels today, I’m sure I’ll be unpacking her whole conversation on marriage and then Henry dying right after? Poor woman. Love the way it’s always only her work for her
Peshka: I could say a billion billion things about s2 but this episode just breaks my little heart into a billion tiny pieces. Allison <333
Sins of the Father: This episode… as I said to @Jae earlier, it’s crazy how different this episode makes you feel on repeat listens. This is such an interesting episode for Toby, and for his relationship with Rachel and I love that it all is so in character. They hardly say anything and yet you know everything. I LOVE THIS SERIESSS
The Reesinger Process (from The Worlds of Doctor Who): nice story, does feel like it showcases the team very well. Allison even gets possessed! Can we please develop some sort of anti-mind-control drug and give it to her? Although at least this time Ian is in on it too and arguably has a worse time about it
The Ship of the Sleepwalkers: they all go on a cruise together nothing nefarious going on at all. Not quite true, poor Allie gets mind-controlled again and seasick! Very nice episode
My Enemy’s Enemy: welcome back, Lady Clare! She’s so lots of double crossing in here that I found a little hard to keep up with, but Ian in the punk club is just perfection. Also by my count Allie has had her mind affected in 13 of 27 audio stories I have done with her my girl is not okay
