I’m curious how different people approach their backlogs as I’ve never really been able to get on top of mine as it just grows and grows every month.
I don’t x.x
The real answer is, I pick a range and singlemindedly go through it. It helps for me that I have listened to a lot, but right now I am finishing the Main Range, then I’m going to work through the individual Doctor ranges. With spinoffs that I follow, I usually listen to new releases pretty quickly. Sometimes I do feel like I should make a spreadsheet though
But there is always more!
I only buy audios after I’ve completed another.
It just keeps growing…
I do kind of always have one series I’m primarily doing but I also already have such a big backlog and I’ve only been buying Big Finish for a year!
Though I have actually been good this month, and not bought anything [1]
Current priorities are 1. Gallifrey 2. Gallifrey Relisten [2] 3. Omega Factor 4./5./6. (order to be decided) SJS audios/Romana stories/Counter-Measures
My answer is Audio Club!
No, seriously! The club has helped me listen to audios I bought ages ago but haven’t gotten around to earlier.
That, and pressure from my fellow Whovians…
I don’t deal with my Big Finish Backlog.
Deal with my Backlog of Doctor Who Media? Well… I don’t! But to be honest, it really depends as I have plenty of Audios left for example and work through them slowly. At times starting multiple Boxsets to not only bring some Variety to the mix but also working slowly and steadily through them. In other words: It’s a complete mess, even worse than my Book Backlog!
I… don’t have one.
I don’t have any audios that I haven’t listened to.
I would try and buy some new audios, but there’s so much to choose from I end up getting overwhelmed!
I just kind of pick and choose at random. And I also relisten to stuff. I’m trying to not get anything new until I got caught up, but then there will be so much more to buy. It’s the neverending cycle.
75 audios and it’s growing, i did get through it completely a few years back
I just listen to whichever audios I think will make me most happy at a certain time, and try to feel excited, rather than intimidated, by the ones I’m planning to listen to in future.
As someone who’s only had time recently to get through a lot of their backlog, I’ve just decided to focus on a range at a time. Sometimes though, I falter and do half then switch to another. I think focusing and tackling one portion at a time definitely works best!
See I used to do the same but the pre-order pricing discount is significant, but thus creates a backlog.
If you ever want recommendations feel free to dm me or just ask around!
I’ve never really had this problem as I knew from the beginning I was just going to listen to the Sixth Doctor Era, but there was still a ton to go through just in that.[1] In the beginning I focused on the Evelyn- and Peri-oriented stories that sounded interesting; then I started on the other BF-only companions (again with stories that sounded fun). Once those were exhausted, I just started picking and choosing based on whatever grabbed my attention on any given day until I had nothing left but the ones that didn’t look appealing to me.
I can’t imagine being a more multi-faceted listener lol.
and then I decided to extend that by listening to all of Peri’s audios regardless of Doctor ↩︎
Continuing on the “I don’t” train but not as a gag, I genuinely just let it grow and listen to whatever I want to when I want to lol
At the moment I’m just trying to get the shorter audios done before tackling the multiple 3 hour audios i have
That’s a good tip actually, I’ve got lots of ranges with a bigger backlog than others, so I targeted the smaller ones first mostly.
I have a very small backlog and I just listen to whatever interests me at the time
I try to prioritize listening to new releases/purchases as soon as possible, so a backlog doesn’t form/grow
See I used to try that, in 2019 I got through Gallifrey S1+S2 in a month, but my mind wandered and I started listening too something else. Come almost 6 years later now, and S3 is still on the backlog.
I’d love to be able to do that, but I buy when they’re on sale an pre-order mostly. As someone who prefers to buy CD there is a FOMO element to purchases.
See that’s the sort of approach I usually take. But the issue comes when that inevitably causes me to forget about a story, I’ve had the Krampus two-parter on my backlog since I finished the Ravenous 2.1 back in December!
I’m definitely going to try that!
I came back to Big Finish a couple of years ago, after a 20-year hiatus from them. As a result I have a lot of catching up to do. As somewhat of a completionist, I am listening to all the DW related releases in original release order. I’m up to 2003 so far.
Honestly, I just listen to a couple every week or so and eventually my list of stuff to listen to will go down.
