Essentially, I can listen to them far faster than they can produce more.
I have a fairly long commute, and I really enjoy having something playing while I’m doing other things - generally I don’t have too much of an issue of maintaining focus, so on an average day if I’m primarily listening to Big Finish (rather than any other media) I can get through multiple audios, and generally feel that I’ve got pretty much everything out of them.
At the moment, while I am actively trying to catch up a bit, I’m prioritizing listening to new audios over relistens or seeking out new media to consume, but otherwise I’m listening as usual.
I have DVDs and Blurays I haven’t watched.
Books I haven’t read (many from the 90s)
Audios I haven’t listened to.
Comics I haven’t read.
I try and look at it as a positive - I always have a new story (but my brain always wonders whether I’ll have finished them all before the inevitable heat death of the universe).
I stash my audios for a time when there’s nothing on TV. I have a very big backlog as a result, but it ensures I always have something to fill in gaps when there’s nothing to watch on TV.
I try to mix ranges while listening and it really helps! For example, now I’m listening 8+Charlie, Sontarans and Rutans, Cyberman and Companion Chronicles in chronological order (and some other ranges). After I’ll finish one of them, I’ll pick another to listen. This way I’ve never bored and getting through all my TBR.
FOMO that I haven’t listened to it all yet, especially when people speak about things I haven’t heard, desperately trying to get through as much as I can.
Looking at how many there are (hundreds!), working out in my head that it will realistically be many years before I catch up, being overwhelmed by it all, not to mention the total cost.
But also
Thinking how great it is that there’s hundreds of hours of content that I can listen to whenever I want, I’ll basically never be bored again.
So to try and not have anxiety about it what I do is:
Listen at every chance I get. Mix them up - lots of things like Main Range I feel a bit obligated to listen to, because some are not good, but I want to hear them all and get to the gems. So if I listen to a particularly bad one I’ll switch it up after and do Torchwood or something. Trying to have variety.
I also desperately want to relisten to some stuff that I loved but feel like that’s “a waste of time” simply because I have a huge list of what I want to listen to.
I tell you, one of these days I need to go through my library (wayyy too big) and mark off what I actually own on TG as collectibles so I can more easily see what I’ve not listened to yet - there is a way of sorting by listening, right? I would definitely find that useful (when I get round to sorting my stuff out)
I was going to start listening to my Torchwood audios in January but there’s been so much TV to watch lately and I have a three months trial of Apple TV at the moment too that I just haven’t been able to fit it in alongside other things I do, like gaming and writing for Comic Book Resources.
I’ve had finish the TLV audios on my to do list since the last one came out in 2020! Last year I did one of those online ranking tools that make a numbered list (they use an item X or Item Y format to compare everything in a list) to try make a full comprehensive listening order - it didn’t work for me unfortunately
Same!! Its only really because Tardis Guide has a badge for completing them that I got round to actually finishing them I’m glad I have though, some good ones in there!
