I actually asked my question having no assumptions about what you would say, but yes, the negativity about Six is rampant in the fandom. I’m not one who lurks about DW spaces that much outside of TARDIS Guide, but yesterday I was bored and went on another site. The second I did so, I stumbled upon a pretty scathing comment about Six. I understand that everyone has their own opinions and we can’t all like the same things, but this is why I created the Technicolor Dreamcoat - A Sixth Doctor Era Appreciation Thread :).
I find your response interesting, though, because I hear more people say s23 is the highlight of his TV run as opposed to s22. Trial of a Time Lord seems to be an arc that garners a lot of attraction, even if the viewer doesn’t care for Six himself.
I also prefer s22 because the s23 trial sequences are an element that works exceptionally well on first watch, but can get slightly grating on repeats. Sometimes you just want to watch the serials without the silly bickering bits between Six, the Inquisitor, and the Knacker’s Yard spliced in. I also prefer the s22 stories in general, but all eleven serials can be considered my favorites.
If you’re interested in visiting or talking more about his expanded universe run, feel free to leave a comment in the thread! He’s my favorite Doctor and I can talk about him for hours.
