Hello all, I am Kate Zez. Excited to share my Doctor Who life story!

Hi everyone!
I’m Kate Zez from Dublin :ireland: . I’m a huge fan of Classic Who and audio dramas.
As a way to introduce myself, I’d like to share some short highlights about Doctor Who and my life.

Some time ago, Doctor Who inspired me to learn English, believe in myself, and completely changed my life, so the reason I’m now living my best life in Ireland is because of Doctor Who. I was literally learning English by watching Classic Who and listening to audio dramas.
Really, Doctor Who has completely changed my life, given me a future I couldn’t have imagined before, and I honestly don’t know where I’d be now without DW (sounds a bit dramatic, I know, hah).

My favourite Who people are Paul McGann and Sophie Aldred, because their voices were my main inspiration and motivation while I was learning English (thanks to Big Finish audios).
A few months ago, I met them both, had some of the most amazing conversations of my life, and ended up chatting with Paul McGann for a few hours. Truly amazing people!

My favourite Doctor is Eighth (of course, hah) and Fourth, and my favourite companions are Sarah Jane, Ace, and Charley Pollard. And ALL other Doctors and companions!

Some other facts about me:

The city shown in the “Orphan 55” episode (13th era), Novosibirsk, is where I was born, hah! (Sometimes in the mornings, I actually look like one of those “friendly citizens” from the episode).

In 2006, I watched the “Empty Child” episode, and was so terrified that I had two weeks of sleepless nights, and then refused to watch Doctor Who for the next few years. (Thank Rassilon, I changed my mind!).

I had a completely traumatising experience learning English in middle school, so I hated it for years, and until I was 21 y.o, I couldn’t speak or read it at all. But Paul McGann and Sophie Aldred were examples of beautiful English that changed my entire opinion on the language. I still can’t believe that English is now my main language, and that I even earned a degree studying Science in it. All because, one day, I watched Classic Who.

Random crazy fact about me: Survived a face-to-face meeting with a wild bear. Not going camping anymore.

One of my favourite audio dramas is Dark Eyes. It was one of the first times I ever listened to Big Finish audios, my first introduction to the Eighth Doctor (before I’d seen the TV Movie), and the first time I ever heard an Irish accent (thanks to amazing Ruth Bradley).

I’m really happy to be here, I’ve been looking for a great international forum like this!
Big thanks to a good friend of mine, Five_Hundredth_Drax, for introducing me to this place!

Thanks for reading my story! Have a great day :green_heart:

What a lovely story! This is why DW is such a great franchise—it has brought people together, started friendships and relationships, changed lives, and helped people get through difficult times. So it’s great to hear that it’s taught you English. And with Paul and Sophie, no less! I wish they’d been my teachers too!

Anyway, thanks for sharing your story, and welcome to our community. Many fans of Eight, Ace, and Charley here, so you’ll fit in nicely.

Hi Kate. Welcome, indeed, to TARDIS Guide. This is truly the most supportive and best Doctor Who community I’ve ever found online. We love all aspects on here, audios very much included. You’ll find plenty to discuss. Although we don’t always agree on everything, you’ll find a rich and respectful community of truly lovely people here. There’s always someone to champion even the most unloved story and always someone with whom to have a good debate. I look forward to seeing your contributions.

Welcome, that’s a fascinating story, thank you for sharing! There are many other people here whose first language wasn’t English and they learnt it from Doctor Who!

I’m so impressed by anyone who can learn that way!

I hope you enjoy it here

Hello and welcome to the forum! It’s very impressive that you managed to become fluent in English when you mainly started learning at when you were 21. It’s always nice to meet another Sarah Jane enthusiast.
