Hello all! ~a rambling introduction

Hello all! ^^

I was looking for somewhere to keep track of audio stories and help me pick which ones to get next and this looks like a great place to be! I’ll probably mostly lurk, but I thought I would give you a little introduction first.

I grew up in the Wilderness Years and have been watching Doctor Who since I was very young. My parents had most of the Fourth Doctor through to the end of the Seventh recorded off TV on VHS tapes, along with a few purchased ones. I loved watching those old tapes and eventually wore them out! One fun story is that the end of the Sunmakers was cut off so we never saw the last 10 minutes, haha! We had to wait years for an official release to see how it ended!

I can share a lot of stories about those days, but I don’t want to ramble too long. We did eventually buy nearly every classic episode on VHS that was available, and I still have that collection today. I also picked up several books and narrated recordings of the missing episodes.

Naturally I was ecstatic when the show returned to the screen, something I never imagined would happen! I have thoroughly enjoyed most of the new series and its fantastic Doctors and companions! I will admit, to my embarrassment, I’m a bit behind on the latest seasons, but I look forward to catching up when I get the chance!

In the meantime, I have been diving more into the Big Finish audios, which I have listened to sporadically throughout the years. Since I have a strong fondness for the Classic series, it brings me such joy to have new adventures with them again! ^^

It’s honestly really hard for me to pick a favorite Doctor or companion, since I honestly love just about all of them. For the classic series, I’ll say Second and Seventh for now, although Six gets an honorable mention for being really fun in the audios. For the new series, I think Eleven is my favorite. I tend to like the male companions, so Ian, Steven, Jamie, Harry, Turlough, and Rory are some of my favorites! I also really like the classic UNIT team: the Brigadier, Benton, and Yates!

Sorry if I went on too long! Wonderful to meet all of you! ^^

Nice to meet you too! Classic UNIT stories are some of my favorites! I recently rewatched a few of them (Mind of Evil, Terror of the Autons, Daemons, etc) and the banter between them all is great!

Hi!

Wonderful to meet you and welcome. Seventh Doctor fans :right_facing_fist:t3:

What are you liking or disliking about the revival? Any preferences for type of story?

That’s so cool with your parents. I also had shoeboxes filled with VHS tapes back in the day (not of Doctor Who, though!) That shows true dedication right there!

Hope you enjoy your stay.

Hello and welcome! Lovely to see another person around here, especially if they’re a fan of Jamie, Steven and Ian (my top 3 Classic companions, if I’m going to be honest).

Welcome to the forum @Rowana_Farrin - great to have you here. How did you discover TARDIS Guide? I do hope you feel the urge to de-lurk and join in our many conversations.

Yay fellow Seventh Doctor fan! :left_facing_fist: Seven and Ace are one of my favorite Tardis teams! (yes, I realize I have a lot of favorites, I can’t help it!) Pretty sure I went through a phase of saying “wicked” all the time when I was young.

As for the revival, I think they’ve done a good job of blending what makes Doctor Who fun with the more modern episode/season format. There’s a lot of really fun stories and creative ideas that make for great adventures! I do prefer episodic stories, and sometimes the longer season arcs can be a bit overwhelming for me, but overall I have enjoyed most of it! One thing I would like to see is more variety of companions. While I have enjoyed a lot of them (Donna, Amy, and Rory especially), I miss having companions from different time periods and even planets.

Thank you! I was actually looking around for ratings of Big Finish stories to help me decide which ones to get next. A few threads mentioned this site and it looks really helpful!

I completely agree with you. We were just discussing that on the forum the other day, I actually liked a lot of the alien companions, Romana and Nyssa come to mind. Or ones that are different species. Heck, I loved K9. :k9: Some more Edwardian/Victorian companions would be excellent, too. Love when the show and audios focus on that.

Yep. You’ll do well here. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
