We also shouldn’t forget this Finnish Easter delicacy; it’s one of the weird foods that we make foreigners try when they visit. Most people think it looks like baby poo, but it’s delicious.

It’s called mĂ€mmi (or memma in Swedish). My wife and dad don’t like it, but I have to eat it every Easter.

There are many variations, sweeter and less sweet, and this isn’t the best one but it’s still pretty good. The third picture is the traditional way to serve mĂ€mmi.

Happy Easter and Doctor Who Day all!

What’s it made of? :slightly_smiling_face:

It’s mostly water, rye flour, ground malted rye, salt and orange zest.

Here’s the process, from Wikipedia:

The mixture is left to sweeten naturally, before being baked in an oven until set, by which time the colour and flavour has developed due to the Maillard reaction. After baking, the mÀmmi is chilled for three to four days before serving. Unlike traditional mÀmmi, which is left to sweeten naturally, commercially made mÀmmi is usually seasoned with dark molasses. Traditional mÀmmi has an aromatic and sweet flavour, consisting of just 2% sugar or less, whereas commercially produced mÀmmi can contain as much as 20% sugar and is therefore much different in flavour. MÀmmi has up to 10% protein and is rich in trace elements. Traditionally, mÀmmi was stored in small boxes made of birch bark called tuokkonen or rove, the appearance of which is now mimicked by commercial packaging.

Typically, mÀmmi is eaten cold, with either milk or cream and sugar, and less commonly with vanilla sauce. Traditionally, it was also eaten on sliced bread as a spread.

Easter hasn’t typically been a great time to be vegan lol but I did get this haul (plus about 20 more of the mini eggs that I already ate!).

Lindt doing vegan chocolate was a huge milestone in my life :star_struck:

(That vegan Lindt bunny is brand new, can’t wait to try it!!)
