Yup… yup… and remember at the time they thought there wasn’t going to be more so that must have sucked! Every ‘ohhh it’s the end for real ;)’ since then no-one has really believed haha
Everyone talking about season 3, criminal we have to wait for audio club for it!! :CCC
Listened to the interviews at the end of Imperiatrix and there’s some great titbits of info:
- Darkel was originally just a male judge who Gary Russell suggested to Justin Richards could be changed into the Inquisitor from Trial. Lynda Bellingham jumped at the chance to reprise her role.
- Braxiatel wasn’t originally in it - it was going to be Maxil (for about a day) and then a Castellan played by Matthew Waterhouse, but he wasn’t available.
- Narvin is Gary Russell’s favourite ‘new’ character for the series (although if he hadn’t killed off Valyes in Neverland, it probably would have just been him in this series).
- Attention is drawn to the real life similarities between Romana and Leela and Ward and Jameson’s personalities.
Sorry for being pernickety but some minor corrections: the Castellan played by Matthew Waterhouse was only going to be for Zagreus (following the trend of getting past companions to play all sorts of roles in that story) and it was Vansell, not Valyes, who was the previous director of the CIA (tho their names are very similar lol)
This is what happens when you listen to something, go and do something else and go and type an informative post at 11pm!
Thanks for the corrections!
As fun as it would’ve been for Maxil to be a major player (and honestly I’m dissapointed he isn’t, just seperate from the role he would’ve had), Brax was 100% the right choice. This is the first I’m hearing him and even still I just adore the way he’s written, and it really makes me want to go and check out the Benny range
Miles Richardson was also perfectly cast, whenever I read with a book with Brax I see him.
Same here! He’s definitely bumped up the Benny stories up my mile long dr who list.
Side note, anyone else get jarred by Brax’s character picture compared to everyone else on the Gallifrey stories lol. I feel like this pic or something like it would suit him more
Same feeling. That picture is from Dead and Buried, the only animation Brax’s in lol
I think something like this would work better tho
I went for this one because the Fenman one was too narrow and I thought we needed something which wasn’t as range specific as Brax in his Time Lord get up.
I hope this is a suitable alternative:
(ETA - I’ll get told off now for changing things on the website without asking first…)
Well, Warfare is another 10/10 from me.
That was an intense, dramatic ride! It left me emotionally drained by the end.
Some of my thoughts were:
“Oh no, poor Romana!”
“Yeah! You go, Leela! Kick some ass!”
“Matthias, you ■■■■■■■ backstabbing double agent, go ■■■■ yourself!”
“K9! Good dog!”
“Oh no, you don’t dare do that, Darkel!”
“Okay then, Narvin! Prove your worth!”
“They did what with the Matrix??? Is this it? Are we done? What will happen now?”
Utter brilliance, yet again.
A thought I have had many times and one you will have again before the end
Listened to (and by listened to I mean dozed in and out of) series 6 on the plane, and it’s a strange one. I love it, but it’s tonally really weird and i’m not certain that the resolution to the Dogma Virus really makes sense.
Also my worst opinion is that Extermination is my least fav ep in s6 and the door scene, though iconic, is nothing on the scene in Ascension where Narvin helps free Leela from the rubble. The door scene has just always felt really forced to me.
Also Romana iii…
Agree with you totally about Extermination, it’s probably my least favourite Gallifrey episode
Renaissance on the other hand is so beloved to me!!
May I suggest using these (dead and buried render and character portrait in the Benny anthologies) for brax and potentially other Benny characters?
because I feel brax is more predominant a Benny character than a gallifrey character, and way more a prose character than an audio character, and how he is portrayed in art is really charming to me?
The Dead and Buried image was what we replaced because it’s a bit unrepresentative of Brax as a character across all the ranges.
The Collection residents though are a great call - I love Adrian Salmon’s artwork.
Is it possible to show different pics for different media?
That’s above my pay grade!
@shauny New feature suggestion!
Jumping in here because I was summoned, but I haven’t read all this because spoilers.
Could be possible yes. I have also considered different pics for different eras, for example Sarah Jane Smith should have a pic of her when she was younger for the Classic series, and different pic for SJA.
It’s on my list!
I shall now disappear again in a puff of smoke because I’m not reading this thread until I’m finished with Gallifrey!
