Fugitive Doctor - Most Wanted

Fast Times is fun! Jo Martin is amazing, and I love how immediately distinct she is already! The Daleks aren’t as bad as I feared, though still kinda unnecessary and could have been a different race entirely. Excited for the rest of the set!

Before I get to my thoughts on Dimension of Lost Things, there’s a funny detail that I want to point out. A very important aspect to this story is the historical fact that, while George Mallory’s body was discovered in 1999, Andrew Irvine’s body has never been found, leaving his fate open, especially in a sci-fi story like this. This story was recorded sometime in early January 2023, when this fact was still accurate, but it no longer is. In 2024 an expedition found partial remains of Irvine, a detached foot with a sock with his name on it. So now I’m headcannoning that at some point The Doctor learns this and fakes the evidence .

And now my thoughts and opinions! I thought this was pretty good. Not as good as Baba Yaga but I liked it more than Fast Times. The multi-Fugitive Doctor aspect was fun, especially with the twist that the other Doctor is a past version still working for the Division. As much as I babbled about the historical character, Andrew ‘Sandy’ Irvine, he’s not utilized that well here, with his character acting mostly as an observer that points things out for the audience. Jo Martin’s performance was especially great in this story, with a few very intense moments, in part thanks to how much emotion she’s putting in. Cosmo is still fun but under utilized, I really hope she has more of a presence, or even a point of view story, in a future set.

In general I was impressed by this set, the opening was a bit week but it did what it needed to set up two much better stories. I know this is the ‘Fugitive’ Doctor Adventures, but in the future I’d really like a few stories set during her time at Division, maybe folding in some of the elements from Flux like Karvanista and the Ravagers.

I share a lot of your thoughts, I did not know about that discovery though, McMullin must’ve been kicking herself.

Hard agree re: Cosmo, I expected her to have a much bigger presence in this set as the Doctor’s pursuer and I found their relationship a little jarring going between stories, since it seems to skip from the first meeting to a sense of familiarity. Though from the interviews it sounds like the other set will be better for her.

I like how in The Dimension of Lost Things we did get glimpses at the Doctor’s time in Division via flashback, though the overarching mystery is something I’m concerned they won’t really get into and just leave a total blank. I don’t want all the answers, but they’re setting up a lot of their own questions on top of what was already there and it’d be fun to have the Doctor unlock the secrets to some of them. Otherwise I feel like it’ll start to get unsatisfying to listen to.

i defo concur with everyone i expected more cosmo, but i saw an extract on twitter from the interviews (i usually skip them :sob:) saying she’ll be more present as we go on.

I haven’t read any of the posts above for fear of spoilers😉

I’ve listened to Fast Times today.
I really liked it, a solid 4/5 :star:

I thought for a while that the Doctor was time skipping to appear in 65 million BC to have the Daleks be crushed by a certain crashing spaceship with someone inside that’ll never know if he was right…

I don’t really know know what else to say, I’ll jump back and read all comments when I’ve heard all three stories :slightly_smiling_face:

Okay, Baba Yaga.

This felt closest to a traditional Doctor Who story. A bit of a sidestep, but a very atmospheric one. Jacqueline King is amazing, and the way folklore and reality are mixed is interesting. I also enjoyed the ties to the Time Lords and the twist involving Baba Yaga.

The Dimension of Lost Things has an intriguing and well-utilised setting, a fun multi-Doctor aspect and that strong scene with the Doctor facing her lost memories. Cosmo comes and goes but deserves more love. Irvine was a fun addition to the story.

I really enjoyed Baba Yaga! Really loving this slightly meaner edge that Fugitive has while still clearly having elements of The Doctor we know and love. Jacqueline King was AMAZING and an absolute highlight!!! Loved the atmosphere and tone and just had a blast.

The FOMO got to me, and I have now started listening to these.

I will go back and read all comments when I’m done!

Listened to Fast Times, a nice enjoyable romp!

Great set, looking forward to more from this Doctor. A new Doctor at bf is always exciting and we get another later this year!

There isn’t a confirmed release date, but judging by how things line up on my account, we could be looking at August for the second Fugitive Doctor box-set. This gives it the same gap you get between Call Me Master releases too.

Just finished Fast Times. I enjoyed it, but… I have reservations. I like that the Daleks weren’t the complete focus and were more after the companion character and just happened to recognize the Doctor. Someone commented on the theme variant for the set just being Thirteen’s and not an original version. Having just listened to both, I’d like to weigh in. Yes, it’s Jodie’s. But I think I’m finding it sped up somewhat, and I’m noticing that the bass has been highlighted and made more prominent. Because for me, yes it was Jodie’s, but it sounded off somewhat. So they have made some slight changes.

There are slight changes to the theme made across each of Jodie Whittaker’s three series, the variant used in this set is iirc the Series 11 one, so it might just sound off because you’re used to the later two.

The version of the Jodie theme that I’ve heard most recently is the Series 11 one and it sounded slightly different from that.

Great set overall, but admittedly I found The Dimension of Lost Things to be the weakest of the set. Martin was still great, and the setting was cool but for some reason nothing gripped me as hard as I’d like other than the explanation of the second Fugitive Doctor being a past one, which rules

The Dimension of Lost Things was the weakest of the set, but it’s still a four-star story!

And with that, I’ve finished Most Wanted!

What a great set!

I can’t wait for the next one!

I would rank them:

Legend of the Baba Yaga (4.5/5)
The Dimension of Lost Things (3.5/5)
Fast Times (3/5)

Going in I was least interested in Baba Yaga, so listening to it was a really nice surprise. I’ve also already relistened to it and it is definitely becoming a comfort audio! Really looking forward to the next set, hopefully it doesn’t take too long to come out!
