Erm… Father’s Day is June 16th you fools and it’s a Sunday - why on earth would you have it on a Wednesday?

When Father’s Day was introduced here in 1935 it was placed on Grundlovsdag (Constitution Day) as everyone had the day off (said earlier that everyone still has the day off which is apparently not true, but I’ve only ever had jobs where it was a day off - still the schools here are closed so I have the boys home today).
:denmark:
What’s up with everyone calling Danes fools today

I have no idea when father’s day is here. I’m not sure we even have a father’s day.

Well in Germany it’s on ascension day (which sounds very weird in English) which is a Thursday around may and a holiday too. Though the celebrations tend to be less about fathers and more about young men going around drinking

Which is sometimes how they become fathers…

Where are you from?

I’d rather not say.

That’s ok. Just got curious.

It’s only just occured to me that Morbius is voiced by the son of Prunella Scales and Timothy West.

I can officially say that the Dad of Morbius was once in EastEnders.

To be honest, you can tell they’re related; Samuel is the spitting image of his father.

Timothy West was also in Phobos:

Prunella hasn’t, as far as I’m aware, contributed to the Whoniverse (although she did get hypnotised by Beep the Meep in a DWM comic strip!).

I know he was in ‘House of Blue Fire’ too.

Interesting fact about ‘Phobos’ actually: it was a last-minute addition to the line-up for Series One, because the previous script fell through.

Shame as well, the script planned for that slot was supposedly gonna be an Iain McLoughlin one (guy who wrote ‘The Eye of the Scorpion’ and created Erimem)

Very gentlemanly behaviour I’m sure :+1:
Sorry we couldn’t extend the same courtesy when the Men’s Handball Euro earlier this year was played :sunglasses::grin:

Today we celebrate the Swedish National Day. We celebrate that this is the day of the coronation of King Gustaf Vasa who was the one who defeated the evil Danish king Kristian the Tyrant. :sweden::sweden::sweden::sweden::sweden:

However, to be honest, we don’t do much to mark this day. When it comes to celebrations, we excel more at Midsummer, which is just a few weeks away.

Happy Swedish National Day :tada::sweden:

King Christian II was a weird one and definitely evil.
Committing the Stockholm Bloodbath to try and re-seize power of Sweden while simultaneously trying to be a “benevolent despot” in Denmark and Norway and transfer power from the nobility to the middle class.

While not necessarily a peaceful part of our joint history, the Kalmar Union is a fascinating historical period of Scandinavia.
The royal coat of arms in Denmark still shows three crowns, one for Denmark, Sweden and Norway each - but is meant to symbolise the peaceful relationship that exists between the Scandinavian countries in spite of our past.

:sweden:

That is interesting we also use three crowns as a symbol but I heard that it is a Christian thing for the three wise men.

I heard that as well, but I think it becomes a bit muddled in the fog of history whether that is the original meaning. The three crowns from Sweden were also used when the Kalmar Union was formed under the Danish Queen Margaret I. and was after that used in the Danish coat of arms but meant to represent the union of Denmark, Sweden and Norway - so we totally stole it from you

The UK coat of arms is pretty hilarious, that lion looks so camp to me and we have an actual unicorn :unicorn: why is its tongue out??

There are also 3 crowns - one in the centre, one on the lion, and the unicorn is wearing one as a neckless because he’s fabulous darling.

Happy National Day to you and all Swedes! You always beat us at everything, but we love you nonetheless!

I love Scandinavian history. We’ve had a lot of crazy rulers and fought many a bloody war, and it’s all fascinating to read about, particularly as we are trying to be democratic role models these days!

That is one fabulous unicorn :star_struck: I love how the lion is kind of stripped down but the unicorn is fashionable!

Absolutely. And it was really a force to be reckoned with at the height of their power.
