Hate to breaek it to you, but the two incarnations of Rasmus we’ve had thus far have been played by black actors. I enjoy the character, but Scandinavian he is not.
You are missing the important bit…
Does he like alcohol?
Skål!
Well, that’s even better! It would’ve been too stereotypical otherwise!
This is the relevant bit, yeah. The one thing that unites everyone in Scandinavia is alcohol!
Well, one of them. I was a big The Rasmus fan when I was a kid
Then there’s my brother-in-law, a couple of friends and a few people I know by name that are all called Rasmus as wasll!
Well it is a great name
And as we’ve just heard Excelis Dawns - “Rasmus” means “Beloved”
I was once playing Dungeons & Dragons when I was a teen where all five of us were called Rasmus - when we started playing I only knew the DM was called Rasmus as I only knew the three other players by nicknames, which was what we used in that boardgame club. The DM totally knew and suddenly just said “Rasmus” out loud and we all went “Yes?”, really surreal moment
Well, you have. I’ve yet to listen to it
You can be our beloved Bill Filer then!
Ah, I misremembered. I thought I saw you posting in that thread I probably mixed up the Book Club and the Audio Extra Club.
(Too many clubs! )
Look, I did a bloody poll! It’s not my fault if you couldn’t make your minds up!
Making your mind up!
Has anyone seen the Binaural sound version of Knock Knock?
And how is it best to experience it, is it just a darkened room and headphones?
And does it bring something extra to the story?
You know you’re insane when you’re listening to the classical music station in the car and you think to yourself ‘ah yes, Schubert, this piece was playing in the background on the radio in The Hollow King for a few seconds’… I may have listened to that episodes too many times…
I think it was just headphones but I never bothered myself.
I turn 23 tomorrow.
I have actually done nothing this year.
That’s depressing.
I’m feeling good about having reduced the size of my “DALEKS!” folder.
You see, in the spirit of completeness, I’d used yt-dlp to download the entire “DALEK!” playlist from the BBC’s youtube channel, and stuffed them all in a folder in my Doctor Who stuff.
Trouble was, first, that it downloaded a bunch of trailers and things I didn’t need.
So I deleted those. But it downloaded each ~13 minute episode as a ~2 GB webm file!
First thing I did was just try using ffmpeg to copy one of them to a mkv file, as reencoding often reduces the save file a lot.
So:
ffmpeg -i episode.webm episode.mkv
That did reduce the size… to ~ 1 GB. Still pretty large. But looking at the information on the streams it printed while encoding… these things were saved in 4K.
I ended up doing this on all of them instead:
ffmpeg -i episode.webm -filter:v scale=1280:-1 episode_720p.mkv
So now we’re talking ~200 MB per file. And they play perfectly fine, in fact, better, because they aren’t big chonky files now…
Edit: Just as a note, you can get the information I saw from encoding it much faster by just doing ffprobe <file>. It shows the dimensions in the information on the video stream.
Doing nothing all year is kinda life goals, honestly, so nothing I’d worry about there. And you did go and move a ton of reviews over here and review a bunch of stuff. Definitely more then I’m getting done.
Congratulations on your impending birthday, in any case!
Sometimes just getting through the year is enough <3 I hope you have a lovely day tomorrow!
We’re nearly birthday buddies! Mine is today
I’m a teensy bit older than you young whippersnapper - you don’t know you’re born, etc etc…
(49 for anyone wondering )
I think that’s more beause;
A. I only work twelve hours a week. They’re unsociable hours too - 3.15 - 7.15 on a Thur, Fri and Saturday morning.
B. Crippling OCD means I rarely leave my room, unless it’s to talk to my cat.
*Ozzy is the only one IRL that’ll listen to me talk about BigFinish. He falls asleep when I do so though, so maybes he’s bored by me too *
I theoretically work a full work week, but I take off as much as I can, and I’m working at home. 3 pm to 11:30 pm Thurs-Mon, in fact.
And I’ve gotten to the point where taking out the trash is about the one time I leave my apartment myself…
Maybe Ozzy will pay more attention if you talk to him about Gallifreyan bioengineered cats. (Though as a cat, he probably just wants ear scratches, to be petted, and to fall asleep on your lap right when you need to get up and do something…)
