That is what I said a wile ago. But @ItsR0b0tNinja and @shauny did not agree with me.

Oh yeah, I remember that conversation. It’s one of those things where no one is really wrong. I’d never put one in a list which has ‘and’ for the last item because, I mean, what’s the point? What’s the comma achieving?

But then the Oxford Comma is the least of our problems while grown adults continue to write ‘could of’ and ‘should of’ online without any knowledge they’re complete idiots! And don’t even get me started on those people who say ‘I could of cared less’ - I could NOT have cared less’ you imbeciles! Think about the logic of what you are saying!

Thanx Tian, will try it.
The thing with the additional ‘really’ reminds me of discussions about “Füllwörter” (Füllwort – Wikipedia, English article: Filler (linguistics) - Wikipedia). Often (at least in my anecdotal experience) confused with other actually useful types of words like “Modalpartikel” (Modalpartikel – Wikipedia, Modal particle - Wikipedia). Oh, all the discussions I’ve had with editors. Quite sure most of the time they were right, but also quite sure human editors often overdo it with their drive for better readability and such. I think for machines it’s even harder to distinguish the useful from the superfluous.
A German product I use - Papyrus - therefore provides an explanation for every suggestion. Guiding to “better” German, but also giving a good way to decide for oneself.

(Translation for the text in the image: I really like Doctor Who. → Does this filler word bloat the text and can it be deleted? (Filler word, level 1)

I said it was more common in American English, so I was correct.

But, whatever. It’s not worth arguing about.

I was confused by that for a long time before suddenly realizing that so many native speakers tend to write what they hear & say rather than what make sense

You should look into the collector’s market for Mumin coffee cups. It is crazy expensive.

This one sold for 236 478 SEK or about 17500 GBP

I’m also using Grammarly to help with spelling and grammar. The thing about it is that it’s not really telling you that using “really” in a sentence is wrong; it just thinks that it’s often superfluous and overused and so recommends not to use it.

Also, you can choose which regional English you want to use, and it will suggest corrections based on that. I have it in UK English so that I always write the correct “colour” instead of the incorrect “color”:wink:

Of course, there is! It’s one of our biggest international exports! Are you finally embracing the light and becoming a Moomian (yes, I made that up)?

(Grammarly wanted to correct “Moomian” to “Mormon”).

The rare coffee cups with production mistakes are also expensive. They usually go for thousands of euros.

You sir, are on the true path of righteousness.

I had one of the books on my childhood bookshelf but never ever read it. I used to flick through and look at the illustrations but for some reason never actually chose to read it. I did watch the TV show from time to time.

Grammarly is telling you to do this because in many circles people give advice to avoid words like “really” and instead just use a stronger verb–like “adore” instead of “like.” But actually words like “really” are part of colloquial speech and can contribute to a writer’s voice. This is why I don’t use stuff like Grammarly… my syntax isn’t perfect even by my own standards, but no one knows what I meant to say as well as I do.

I did not know this! Changed it now.

I think you’re doing a great job, I couldn’t post in another language at all! It’s good you have the tools to help you do that and we appreciate you posting in English so we all understand

Det vore kul om vi helt plötsligt började skriva på våra egna språk. Skulle dock bli väldigt svårt att hänga med då! :joy:

Translation

It would be fun if we all of a sudden started writing in our own languages. However, it would be very difficult to keep up then! :joy:

See, looking at that I have absolutely no clue how to even begin translating it. It’s all Greek to me!

You would think that but it is actually Swedish :stuck_out_tongue:

Ja sama suomeksi!

Summary

And the same thing in Finnish!

A thought just struck me! Perhaps we are talking in different languages here, but since this forum exists inside Shauny’s 7ARDSG, it translates everything to English for the benefit of all!

I was about to make this joke, but you were faster!

This is how it would look like in Greek:

Θα ήταν υπέροχο αν ξαφνικά αρχίζαμε να γράφουμε στις δικές μας γλώσσες. Ωστόσο, θα ήταν πολύ δύσκολο να συμβαδίσουμε τότε!
