Apologies if this has already been discussed, but what is this I keep hearing about Disney dropping DW or something to that effect? Just a few months ago everyone was talking about how the ratings were great and how Disney’s partnership was going better than expected; and now everyone’s singing a different tune seemingly out of nowhere.

However, it doesn’t seem to say much about Disney dropping the show, instead specifying that it’s entirely up to the BBC, and that they aren’t making a decision until after Series 15/Season 2 finishes broadcasting this summer.

There’s so much speculation about it, especially from the people who dislike RTD and want him to fail. We just have to wait and see because nobody knows.
But the show will go on, even without Disney.

Ah, so it’s just people being doom and gloom for no reason. He’s saying “he doesn’t know if there will be a third season” because it hasn’t been officially approved on the BBC/Disney partnership side, but everyone, including him, are ready to go full steam ahead regardless if the show continues with Disney or not.
And anyway, it makes sense from a business standpoint to be conservative to renew. Why commit to a fifty year deal right out the gate when you don’t know how the franchise will perform according to your standards.

Yeah exactly. And the thing about Doctor Who is it’s not all about how many people watch it on day one, it has people discovering it all the time, so they are right to wait until the end of season 2 to decide whether to renew or not, they can see a bigger picture.
It doesn’t bode well for the idea of “no more gap years” though because I don’t think they can start filming until they get the green light?
