First Trailer for The War Between the Land and the Sea

That is a great idea. She is an outcast, caught between two worlds.

I’m gonna be controversial and say I prefer the more human-looking designs, like the NuWho Silurians and this Sea Devil from the trailer.

You can definitely do more convincing acting like that.

I honestly think the Sea Devils in LotSD look so obviously fake that it completely pulls me out of the story, you can just tell they are a big mask, and they look like muppets.

I know it’s good to keep the design similar to the original, but not if it sacrifices believability and acting - if you can’t see their faces properly then they may as well be CGI.

But that’s just my opinion

The trailer looks good although it’s hard to tell from it how the show is going to go. I have high hopes.

This is exactly the reason Pertwee cited a number of times for the Draconians being his favourite monster. He says it on camera in 30 Years in the TARDIS whilst standing next to someone dressed as a Draconian.

The War Between the Land and the Sea is also the war within herself because of her dual heritage. Ahhhhh see, clever! :joy:

Maybe too “clever”. Maybe too introspective. Maybe putting too much faith into the story and production…

Maybe even completely false and it turns out she is 100% a female Sea Devil and falls in love with Tovey’s guy.

But that dual heritage and the political tension is something I’ve seen alot in Innsmouth stories. And it’s why I love them sm.

I’m going to stake my colours to the mast (in apt nautical metaphor) and say that I honestly love the new look. The masked Sea Devils, in profile, are clearly inspired by the original design… but updated. Without the masks, I agree that they partner well with new Silurians.

I was thrilled to see classic looking Sea Devils coming back for Legend of the Sea Devils but was crestfallen with how poorly they actually worked on screen (perhaps I’m alone in this). In order for The War Between to stand a chance of being taken seriously as a TV series for an international audience, something had to be done. I made my peace with that a long long time ago. If I was able to accept the new series Silurians in 2010, then I certainly have even less problem with this.

Bring it on.

I am in complete agreement with you on this, @shauny.

Oh are they masked? I hadn’t twigged that. I thought we were going down a sort of caste system. The mask idea does make sense though, as you say, in relation to the modern series Silurians.

I assume it’s more about not offending people who are easily upset by cross-species love stories. However, I think that effort will be for naught. Folks who don’t like that sort of thing won’t like it anyway—maybe even more so. With big enough differences, they could more easily headcanon it as a purely platonic relationship.

My take: it doesn’t really matter, as long as the story is good. And I so truly, really hope the story is good.

And shouldn’t that ever be what really matters?

I never commented on the Trailer for some Reason.. well echoing what others said, if that’s really the new Sea Devils Design, then I am afraid I am not a Fan of it at all :sob: Looks very uncanny to me. As for the Trailer itself, I am kinda mixed about it, maybe it’s just my Disinterest in the current UNIT, which are our Leads, but it didn’t catch as much as I would hope. I do hope I am proven wrong, but RTD2 hasn’t been a striking Success (for me at least), so I am staying cautious.
Guess we’ll see! (Please NO Romances, I don’t want a Sea Devil Romance, I don’t want the entire Ibrahiam/Kate Thing, please do NOT!/lh)

The fact most of this series is written by RTD has me worried, but I’ll keep the faith for now
