I know I’m late on this but I don’t love the new Sea Devil design.

Feels really uncanny valley

Hate this.

Looks more like an Aridian.

Hard agree. The Sea Devil design is awful and I fear they only made them more human looking so the love story between her and Russel Tovey’s character is more relatable.

Maybe they don’t all look like that though? Maybe there is some genetic experiments going on, crossing Sea Devil and human DNA.

Love story? WTF.

I forgot they were meant to be sea devils as I was watching the trailer :sob:

Well…it looks good! Could be Children of Earth levels good!

Sure. The Shape of Water was really good.

I mean it’s pretty obvious in the trailer that there is something going on there, or am I completely misreading that?

Yep, but I don’t think this is going to be of the same quality as del Toro.

I mean definitely not lol

The conceit remind me of the original UNIT series by Big Finish when the Silurians showed themselves to humanity. Back in like 2003.

The Sea Devils design was great for Legend of the Sea Devils, this could be another species of course but if it is meant to be a redesign then what is the ■■■■■■■ point?

In all seriousness, I’m all for her being an Atlantean fish person and it’s actually about them rather than Sea Devils.

I’m obviously going to watch this and I’m even intrigued. I think Homo Reptilia are one of Doctor Who’s greatest additions to its canon and think the storytelling potential is rich and deep and interesting.

But given my pronounced disappointment with this era and coming off a season which is in my Bottom 5 of the whole show[1], I’m finding it hard to have any faith at all.

As ever though, hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

  1. at the highest point possible of that bottom 5, but still in it ↩︎

This looks like it will be good. It has a darker feel than the main series. I hope Kate is in it a lot.

Honestly, I kinda like this as a companion to the new silurians, the top is a bit closer to the classic and a bit more inhuman (like the revival masked silurians) and the bottom is more human

I don’t love it to be clear, but it’s interesting

Oh no, @DontBlink is going to hate this… /j

I hope that’s what it is because her face is completely human, unlike modern silurians whose faces are still covered with scales

Yep, a note from Disney - Make them sexier.

It could be a love story thing ig, but it could be an acting thing. I was wondering why a lotta alien creatures have humanoid faces, even beyond homo-reptilia, and the only conclusion I can come to is the fact that the actors can actually ACT if you can see their faces. So kind of like the inverse to The Mandalorian.

On the other hand, this one girl may not be the female variant of her race. She could have had a humanoid mother, and Sea Devil father-- this would align with tales like Innsmouth, where the main political tension is with the integration of species, and their descendants. So it might not be a love story; the love story could’ve happened already.
