Favourite 2005+ Doctor?

And I think that’s an oversimplification and missing all of his character development.

Of course I am writing a short answer and not an essay.

That could also be said for your description of Ten.

What honest character development does 10 actually have? I don’t see him as significantly different between his beginning and end except for Time Lord Victorious once, where 12 in S8 and S10 is night and day.

I see a clear development in RTD 1 Doctor

Season 1 - Feeling alone and guilty after the time war. Meeting Rose and learns to laugh again.
Season 2 - Having fun with Rose and being on top of the world. Trying to forget his guilt.
Season 3 - Sad that he lost the rock that brought him back and tries to replicate it with Martha but fails.
Season 4 - starting to feel good in himself and just want a friend
Specials - trying to hold it together after losing everyone again.

Dunno. For me it made them one of the most unlikeable duo’s in TV.

Yeah.

Although my ‘controversial’ opinion is that I don’t care about character development for the Doctor. Maybe because there was so little of it during the Classic Era. There must be some exceptions but I feel Doctor Who’s character changes when they change. The Doctor having a character arc is not the main reason I watch the show.

Could not agree more. The fact is, each Doctor has their unlikable traits, and that’s what makes them interesting. But each incarnation has their own little personality (as well as often a totally different creative team) so really comparing them can be hard.

12 has always been, and probably always will be my favourite Doctor, so this is a fairly easy question. Beyond that, 11>9>War>Fugitive>14=10=13. We haven’t had enough 15 yet, but he’d probably go between 11 and 9 if I was hard pressed to rank him.

I think 12 and Clara is the best Doctor and companion duo to ever grace our screens.

I liked Clara more with eleven then 12. I would like a Clara and Me spin-off. That would be fun!

And I like 12 more with Bill.

I agree that isn’t what I watch it for, but the discussion was about how these Doctors’ more negative traits actually lead to change and development of their characters, which is why I’m fine with one and not the other.

Yep, the only season of the 12th Doctor I can tolerate is when he’s with Bill.

Fine. Different tastes. I’ll just leave it, since there’s no sense getting frustrated like I’m starting to.

Yeah we’re all fans of the show. Just have our favourites. & there are so many different Doctors & companions to enjoy across the years.

Expanding a bit:
12>3>7>9>1>2>4>11>6>13>14>15>5>10

8 I only know the TV Movie and Night of the Doctor, and can’t possibly rank him.

Then you need to start listening to the McGann audios.

(or perhaps the 8th doctor EDA books perhaps…)

For me this is neck and neck 9 and 13, but I think nostalgia factors into how I view the 9th Doctor quite a lot, and rewatching even little bits of Jodie recently it’s really been sinking in how much I miss her performance and 13, so my vote goes to the latter.
