Oh, and Romana gets some kind of very complex and incredibly difficult piano piece that she plays on a piano she just magically produces somehow

I don’t know where you would even begin to pick one for the Doctor though!

Something I just realised is, all this talk about the world ending on 24th May etc, and this episode wasn’t even set on the 24th, it was the 23rd.

Next week’s episode will be set on the 24th.

That feels annoying, like they messed up the timeline there a bit.

All the talk of midnight – I wonder if RTD assumed it’d drop at midnight when he wrote it?

Did we ever find out what the importance was behind Mrs Flood/Carla’s doors? Didn’t RTD tease that way back when

That’s was insane!! I thought that they would start just after the Tardis apparent destruction, but WOW! I really enjoy those type of stories where the main character has to free him/herself from the “perfect world”. But I still wonder how Susan fits in all of this, and the fact that it shows how the bigeneration can be odd: the 14th Doctor and his Tardis didn’t react? I know that Tennant wouldn’t be returning anytime soon, but it feels out of character for the 14th to see all of this about to happen and just chill.

On the Rani: I’m still far from getting to her episodes, so I could enjoy the character as it is in the episode. For much it is frustrating how here in Brazil we never got to see Classic Who in an official way (it seems that except for some VHs and the 1996 movie, DW only really arrived in 2005).

I’m really worried about how they’re gonna handle Omega in the finale, the fact that the big reveal was that the Rani was just trying to find him, we didn’t even see him, implies that they’re gonna have a lot of work cut our for them trying to make him relevant, give him an entrance and then inevitable exit in just an hour
For a character that hasn’t appeared on screen since the 80’s it just doesn’t seem like a long enough time span to do the character justice…

They might fail to summon Omega because the Doctor stops the Rani before that happens.

I’ve never seen the Rani prior to this but I rly liked that episode.

For me it was way better than previous 15th Doctor dystopian stories, and it’s definitely because of that 1950s vibe. I thought the slipping cups was a fun thing too. Felt rly terrible for Belinda…

The great big dinos were cool, but I kinda wish instead of a police force, the dinos were ordered to kill/capture the disbelievers, would’ve made them more like totalitarian beasts rather than things that were…just there.

I don’t really know who Omega is yet either but reality falling into the Under verse or clipping through was super interesting, even if I think it’s a little inspired by the Backrooms.

I wish we got more of the fake world before it was all blown up. The fake world section in the first half was easily my favourite of the episode. It’s just such an intriguing world to see explored in Doctor Who.

Thank God there is no controversial politics this episode, idk if I could handle another week of that.

All this, yes yes YES!

The Rani’s flying scooter? Reminded me a lot of the air cars in The Pirate Planet. This is the nippier, cooler version. :squinting_face_with_tongue:

If he does appear, I’m really hoping for something far closer to the costume from The Three Doctors than the one in Arc of Infinity. I’d love an update of the 1973 vintage.

There was so much going on in this episode lol. I have to say I was a little underwhelmed. It felt packed with a bunch of different things that didn’t get resolved, but obviously it’s the first part so hopefully all those story elements get tied up neatly (one can hope). I also felt like so many characters were present, only for most of them to do nothing. It’s was basically one big exposition dump. And once again Belinda felt really sidelined and we didn’t get to see all that much from her, which is unfortunate. I agree with those who think the Rani’s characterization here was a bit more like the Master. Having just watched the Rani’s previous appearances, she definitely felt a bit different here. Also, yet another classic who villain is coming back. I haven’t seen any of the stuff with Omega, so I’ll have to do my homework this week before the final episode. RTD has got to stop pretending this era is for a new audience of fans, because there has been niche callback after niche callback lol. As for things I liked about the episode, I thought most of the visuals were very nice. Panjabi’s performance is great even if I don’t like the interpretation of the Rani. And also Rogue’s cameo? Didn’t expect it and was pleasant to see.

The thing is off course a new regeneration of the Rani will be different to the past ones. It is the same with the Doctor who also changes a lot every time they regenerate.

I think this might be what happens. We see a glimpse maybe but ultimately he’s a plot device – “we need to close the rift before Omega breaks through” – and everyone expecting a grand Omega reveal sighs.

I saw one YouTuber say that RTD is writing the show for 10 years old that have been watching it for 50 years!

WHAT DID HE MEAN WHEN HE SAID “POPPY IS REAL” ??? HE STILL SAID “MY DAUGHTER” TOO :eyes:

I’m guessing that she is a person he has met before in the real world, Space Babies, so not fictional. Then again, Mel is real, Kate is real, Shirley is real. So who really knows :man_shrugging:
