Mine too probably
Missy > Delgado > War
Lol fair. Definitely a bigger fan of Sir Derick Jacobi, Michelle Gomez, and Sacha Dewan more. I do have John Sims nostalgia tho lol.
Delgado is high up there for me too.
I like the Master, but Iām actually really glad we have the Rani and Omega instead in this finale, to be honest. He/she has been hogging the time lord villain spotlight for way too long, and the New Who version is a bit too prone to bouts of ālook how crazy and evil I amā for me. Give me some other time lord villains with different modus operandi - I would love to see the Meddling Monk, Morbius or Rassilon as villains over the Master, personally.
Simms was great in World Enough And Time/The Doctor Falls. Everything before that⦠umā¦
Yeah Iād say this has been a pretty solid season! Lux is one of my fav episodes now. Iād like a satisfying finale, weāll see what happens.
For all the faults I have with this, at least it isnāt Daleks / Cybermen / Master again.
I canāt help but think the Rani is just written as āRTDās female Masterā though.
That reveal blew my MIND.
I honestly have no issue with that myself
Then why not just make her the Master?
Iām glad some are happy with this characterisation of the Rani, but it falls short for me. If I can envisage her as basically the Master or any other stock campy villain, itās a failure in my view.
Agreed tbh I love the War Master a lot. Iām not sure who my favourite is, either him or Missy Iād say. I do really like Crispy too, but Iād place all even Kisgart above Simm
I think ultimately I agree with you that her characterisation isnāt what I hoped itād be, but then I didnāt have hight hopes for it to begin so Iām choosing to just be like yayyyy the Rani!!! And Iāll conveniently gloss over bits I didnāt like [1]
ex lovers??? give me a break Rusty ā©ļø
But she was different from the master. Much more planning and less craziness. I would definitely say that she heve different characteristics then the Master, at least different from all new Who masters.
I had fun watching this episode. No, itās not perfect, and I definitely do have some things I can complain about (I agree the Rani felt a little like Missy), but I think Iāll leave my review for after next week. I mostly enjoyed it, I think itās visually quite striking (giant skeletons!), and as an episode on its own itās really not too bad.
Not sure if itās me youāre thinking of, but I mentioned this in my review of Lucky Day. I definitely feel like RTD doesnāt know how to let disabled people just exist in his stories without their disabilities being a part of the narrative. Honestly, the outsider camp in this episode niggled me a little. Something about the writing feels⦠I donāt want to say performative, but Iām not sure thereās a better word.
āMuch more planning?ā The Master disguised himself as Razor for 10 years whilst living with Bill and infiltrating the Mondasian ship. He came up with the Mr Saxon scheme and built the Paradox machine. Missy took hold of the Nethersphere. The Master has planned a lot, as much as the Rani has.
Less craziness? Maybe a little, but it was still a fairly hammy performance with hammy lines. Complete with a little dance number, talk of them being ex-lovers, hints of a flirtatious nature.
Yeah, sheās doing experiments of sorts but then she could easily be swapped out for āthe Masterā and, honestly, what changes? At its core, nothing. I understand the Rani is a bit more of a blank slate, but nothing so far has really sold me on this character being distinct and different to the Master in a way which makes sense that this is her story and her scheme. I dunno.
So in a little over an hour next week we have to:
Deal with the two Ronnies Raniās
Reintroduce & defeat Omega
Deal with Susan
Deal with whateverās going on with Poppy
Sort out Conrad
Get Belinda home
Do something with Kate, Mel, Hebe Shirley and Ruby?
I just fear its going to be a bit too much
Just consume and look at the pretty VFX, Jamie.
Sheās back in this episode. Just calls herself Rani nowā¦
