Episode Discussion: The Story & the Engine

I’m confused by everyone saying he wouldn’t remember being Fugitive. Why wouldn’t he considering she’s in his past and Thirteen just met her?

Sorry, I don’t tend to retain a lot of the show’s lore. I’m more of a casual watcher.

He remembers that he was Jo Martin once, but most – if not all – of her memories are in the fobwatch that they dropped into the TARDIS a few seasons back.

I had written a giant wall of text summarising Series 12 and Flux, but then @Koquillion basically said all you really need to know.

The Fugitive Doctor is part of the “Pre-Hartnell” Division era incarnations of the Doctor, back when she worked with the Division after they took the Doctor as a child and discovered regeneration through them. The Fugitive Doctor is called the Fugitive Doctor because they’re a fugitive from the Division, who would later use a Chameleon arc to transform the Doctor in the First Doctor, and beginning a new cycle of regenerations, the ones we know in the show.

(I should probably point out that Fugitive’s placement is a bit contentious, but the message is still the same, basically the Doctor used to work for the Division, they wiped her memory of the time, and now the Doctor only gets flashes and vague recollections.)

Extra extra addendum, we don’t exactly know why the Doctor remembers events from the Fugitive, it’s all implication but there are multiple theories.

Random thing. I like that we got to know that the TARDIS does the Doctor’s hair. I really want to see the wardrobe and hair machine.

I don’t remember a memory wiping scene, but thanks all. I guess I missed it.

Speaking of hair, how did everyone’s hair keep magically growing back in the barber shop?

You didn’t see the mindwipe on screen, that was explained in dialogue.

In the finale the Vlinx is revealed as Doctor Whos’ robo-barber & on May 24th cuts everyone’s hair really badly causing worldwide embarrassment.

Just finished watching!! My first thoughts are that it was a banger. But I’m confused. But in the best way?! I can’t wait to rewatch once I’m home and hopefully wrap my head around it more fully. I think part of what makes it confusing might be that it was a very wordy episode, where we were told a lot of information instead of seeing it? Which makes me question if maybe TV wasn’t the right format for this story? But it does feel really nice to not be spoonfed the story and to have something to dive into
