Here! Me! (English is not my first language, so even if I got the idea by the start of the second sentance, it’s hard to track two sentance and count words at the same time. On top of that, I was also wondering why an AI wouldn’t be able to do that & if it’s important somehow)
A 9-year-old, the ideal dw audience, who has a smaller short term memory capacity and a much limited experience with media & tropes /gen

it feels like a throaway line which will end up becoming much more important later on

Yeah you’re probably right there. I’d have to ask one, I just felt that even then each word the Doctor wanted Belinda (and us) to latch onto was emphasised the right amount.

Can someone clarify for me - when the Doctor looks out of the TARDIS at the end, he sees nothing, right? Like Stolen Earth vibes, and the planet is gone? But then a split second later, the TARDIS vanishes and we see the landmarks and stuff drift into shot…? I assume if he’d seen all that, he might’ve gone “what the bloody hell is the Eiffel Tower doing in space?!”
The exploded landmarks just seemed to pop into existence?
It felt like the end of Dragonfire 1 where the director read the script but didn’t understand what was actually happening so just shot what he thought it meant, and they had a go at something in the edit but it just came off as a little confused to me.

I got it, it was very noticable

Recency bias aside, and just the overall hype, I’d give this episode a solid 8.5. I loved Belinda and the doctor’s dynamic, the AL generator reveal was awesome, and that ending was super hype. Really excited for Lux!

I didn’t watch with a kid, either. Have to actually see a reaction. It dose feel a bit cluncky — the editting is so obvious, and Belinda is even counting with her fingers!
Edit: Sorry my connection’s not good so accidentally post it twice

Mine too. There are cleverer and deeper episodes, sure. However, this is big on fun and has a fantastic episode. Plus, I think I’m a little bit in love with Belinda already. She’s phenomenal! This is an episode thst I know I’ll alwats have a good time with on rewatch. It’s a smile wrapped up in Sci Fi style. Gorgeous stuff. One of my favourite season openers.

Looking forward to the sequel where the Doctor has to face the consequences of turning off a bunch of medical equipment and life supports.

Yeah it’s just a hypothesis. I just think they did all the explaining thinking that a kid would probably need it. I watched The Empty Child / The Doctor Dances with a 9-year-old today, and he didn’t remember some of the things characters said but did not emphasise minutes ago. But then he asked me if Nancy was the empty child’s mommy. (During the first episode!) So who knows how much a kid can get without specific explanations ┐(´-`)┌

I didn’t pick up on that as a child till I watched not as a child

Loads of TV these days needs to spell things out for viewers. Netflix even admitted that they write their movies and shows so that the characters tell the audience what they are doing because people aren’t expected to pay full attention these days - they look at their phones or do something else while watching.

Those people might as well listen to audio plays and let us have shows with adequate amount of explanation! /hj

So upset Polish Polish hasn’t joined as the new K9

Surprised it didn’t - would have been nice to have it show up occasionally just in the console room, also neatly explaining how it stays so gleaming and white.

I’ll headcon a timeline in which polish polish joined and keep all the rooms of former companions polished!
