Ok, I just finished watching and it’s just banger!
I really don`t like how RTD write most episodes in last series, but this episod… Wow! I really liked Belinda, just big star and her dynamic with Doctor is greate!

And this mystery around Belinda is a cool hook. I really want to now who told the Doctore about Belinda!

I hope next episodes will be on par or better)

Also, did RTD write this to deliberately troll the TARDIS Wiki?

When Miss Belinda Chandra is kidnapped by missbelindachandrabots and taken to Missbelindachandraville on Missbelindachandra One, she finds a society run by robots, subjugating missbelindachandrakind.

This was like the Space Babies repeated gag but landed for me

Haven’t rewatched Space Babies in almost a year but I actually remember enjoying that one more than I did The Robot Revolution…

Space babies had jokes?

Space Babies was a joke :eyes:

Same. And the bits I don’t like about The Robert Robot Revolution, I understand where they come from. Doctor keep repeating ā€œspace babiesā€ makes little sense and is super annoying

Me too! That gag actually worked on me, I chuckled.

The polish polish robot is joining Gadget in the Adorable Robots That Absolutely Should Have Been Companions Club. ā€œThe Robot Revolutionā€ was a pretty solid season opener (especially compared to ā€œSpace Babiesā€). I love Belinda so far! I love it when a companion calls the Doctor out on his meddling and god complex. Unlike last series, I’m really excited to learn more about this series’ arc! The time fracture, the Doctor being unable to see Mrs. Flood, and the Eiffel Tower (and other things) floating in space are a pretty intriguing start to this series’ mystery.

I did get that the words formmed a sentence but even then the recap was really helpful cause i was trying to hear the words in english while reading the subtitles in spanish and so things ended a bit mixed up in my brain lol

Here’s my review!

I forgot to say earlier that I never thought about the robots being voiced by Nick Briggs. That’s a good thing because most aliens these days do

Robot Revolution is fun, confident, and bursting with imagination. It balances whimsy with emotional heft, introduces a winning new companion in Belinda Chandra, and continues to evolve Fifteen’s personality with warmth and mystery. It’s bold without being brash, clever without being convoluted, and stylish without sacrificing substance. A thrilling start to the season—and the best ā€œEpisode Oneā€ we’ve had in years.

No I didn’t need that recap. I saw what was going on, from the different inflection he was making in his voice, and I could keep track of two sentences at once to understand.

It made me feel clever for figuring it out.

And then there was a recap which made me feel like I was being patronised because of course I’ve already realised this.

But then I thought of my Mum, who probably hadn’t figured this out. Or someone watching who English wasn’t their first language. Or someone young.

And I also remembered about Netflix saying they make shows with the thought of people watching who are using their phones at the same time.

So whilst I’m glad I figured it out without a recap, and I felt slightly patronised by there being a recap, I also thought that for accessibility and for modern audiences, this was actually needed.

So it’s not a problem.

It’s a popular family show and we just need to deal with these things now!

Didn’t realise it was Johnny Green of Torchwood fame playing Alan until the credits

They did him dirty with that wig…

That’s as maybe but it is still a problem for me. It’s not like I don’t watch TV so I know the trends, this just felt like a more overt and noticeable (and therefore unnecessary to me) example.

Yes I get what you’re saying but I think they are aiming for a younger demographic now, if what they said is to be believed.

RTD: ā€œThe audience no one ever gets are the under-30s. They just don’t watch television any more. But those figures are astronomic for Doctor Who, it’s their top programme in that bracket.ā€

I also appreciate that, shauny, I really do. I’m not forgetting about that, Doctor Who has always incorporated kids into its audiences. But taking everything that has been said about this into account, I still honestly thought it was a bit much. Enough to make me question it so much at any rate and certainly pull me out of the episode.

A half-baked analogy that just sprung to mind was that it was always a book the whole family could read, but it was never a pop-up book.

It’s becoming increasingly (and devastatingly) clear this version of Doctor Who isn’t really for me, this just being one example of why. I should probably just shut up about it and stop ruining the party to be honest.

I will say that I didn’t need the recap the first time, but I did the second, with Al was talking, and the first recap laid the ground for the second.
