Episodes 7-13 of series 13 did that poorly!? Maybe the show should be axed ![]()
What sticks out to me is that weird one-episode slump bang in the middle of a mostly green Tennant era. That was Silence in the Library. What happened there?
I get why the figures matter to some extent, but it always props the most useless, unnecessary and tiring discourses in fan spaces. It’s even worse with telenovelas than tv series.
31 May 2008 was apparently a day when people did not want to watch Doctor Who. The BBC probably wanted to cancel the show after that.
Maybe it was the Super Rugby Final?
This is actually stunning to put the figures into perspective like that. That even doctor who at the peak of its mainstream cultural relevance in the UK from 2005-2010 looks actually very similar to it’s current performance??? Season 14 at least could blend right in with the early series, that’s wild to me
I haven’t visited there in months. It doesn’t surprise me that they’re moaning. That’s one of the reasons this place exists.
I went back on only last week actually because I needed to go and retrieve a copy of one of my old reviews. It was a quick in and out though.
I dread to think what it’s like there now given how bad it was 5 years ago.
Or it might come back but 1) it will take A LONG time 2) It might just be a reboot starting from scratch, which frankly I really wouldn’t want to.
Either way, that “10 Year Hiatus”-Sentiment is just bafflingly. What will 10 years off the Air really do for the Show besides putting it in an irrelevant Status for the Masses?
Just a bafflingly Idea, really. (Sorry for the mini ‘Rant’)
Even just the Ratings/Renewal/Viewership thread on the Doctor Who Discord is a depressing hellscape. I can’t imagine what GB is like.
That’s about right. It’s not spectacular, but not disastrous either. I think if I was the BBC, I’d look at that number and consider pushing Doctor Who (and Blankety Blank, which also isn’t getting the most outstanding ratings at the moment) into Autumn for the next series. Air it before Strictly where it will get more of a bump from Strictly.
Yeah honestly im not sure if airing it in spring works anymore,i mean look at 60th,sure that had tennant but still got insane numbers
I don’t think that it is a fair comparison. It was an anniversary special with a comeback from the most mainstream Doctor. Of course, that will draw a lot of people. I don’t think it matters if it is spring or autumn.
So how do we get more people back?
Continue to make good episodes. Word of mouth is the best way to make it a success.
Also, by not worrying so much all the time. Who wants to start watching a show when all the fans keep saying that it will be cancelled when nothing is said?
Learn to stop worrying about how many people watched it, or about if it’s doing well enough to avoid cancellation, and just enjoy the show. If it ends, it ends, nothing we can do about it. I don’t want it to end, but everything does eventually.
Agreed. I used to care so much abt viewing figures and now I really just don’t care anymore
And honestly, do we really want a Doctor Who that just panders to the masses or the lowest common denominator for the sake of maintaining viewership numbers? Then it just becomes like everything else, Doctor Who losing a lot of what makes it unique, or it becomes cheap fanservice. Make good television first and foremost BBC/Bad Wolf, and for the fans, if it’s something you care about, do your part to support it. That’s really all that can be done.
What everyone else said. I feel like we have this conversation every couple days and tbh it doesn’t matter. Viewing figures aren’t important
