I actually didn’t particularly like Allen in the initial scene. I didn’t like the “girls aren’t good at math” crack, those certificates are really kinda scams[1], he was trying too hard to impress her and was being pushy and I just generally didn’t care much for him. I didn’t think that’d be important, but…
IIRC, generally the star name is only registered in a database in that particular companies database. Company goes out of business, and then it’s registered nowhere… It’s similar to the whole “become a lord” scam. ↩︎
Yeah, I feel like it’s something I really needed in a companion.
Companions that aren’t traveling with the Doctor by choice so much as the Doctor is having trouble getting them home is something we used to see, but not so much these days, and she’s got elements of several former companions that I liked. Martha and Tegan stand out as influences, for example.
Please do not take as a criticism. It really isn’t meant as such, and I fully appreciate your meaning by using the word. I just love language and so feel compelled to share this quirky little fact because it makes me smile.
It is a little quirk of language that I enjoy immensely when the word “whelming” means basically the same as “overwhelming”. The application of ‘over’ as a prefix doesn’t change the overall meaning…
…and, either way, it’s infinitely preferable to being underwhelmed.
All we are going to see is people saying that this is the end because these were the lowest-ever overnight ratings. And these people ignore the fact that it’s been on iPlayer the entire day, so those numbers are much more important. Not to mention D+ everywhere else.
Is it really new DW if the ratings weren’t the worst they’ve ever been/fine/the show is cancelled/it’s the best/the Doctor is regenerating/the writing/directing/acting/cg is the worst/best it’s ever been??
