There’s always a lot of “knee-jerkism” when people see something they don’t like. I will say, though, that it’s been far better handled on here than similar moments on the other site.
Regression to the mean will happen.
We all love DW. There so much GOOD STUFF out there for us all to enjoy (from this last season as well), and so much more to come (13th Doctor audios, 9th Doctor and Rose audios, and on and on!). What will come to pass with the televised show, who knows? But I feel confident that the story is far from over. We’ll have more highs (and lows) to come. I’m still on the train (not the Transcontinental Express of A Blind Eye, but what a story THAT is!). I’m still here for the journey as, I’m confident, will most of the rest of us be too.
And even for folks who are concerned about the state of the show, it’s important to remember that it’s all good to take a break and whenever you come back there’s a solid chance the show will have changed a lot again, as that is just how DW works
I took a break for a couple of years when I got disappointed with season 11 and its writing style. When I came back, I did so even stronger, and now I love this stupid show more than I ever did before my break.
My first reaction was ‘jumped the shark’ (which is hugely unlike me) but I’m slowly coming around to the idea. It’s an odd decision for sure but it doesn’t mean it is inherently going to lead to bad stories and, as people have said, Piper is a good actress who could do very interesting things in the part.
I’m 100% sure that Billie is going to put her heart and soul into the role for however long we do end up having her, and it’ll be memorable as hell.
It’s just kind of weird - and frankly annoying, in my personal opinion - that two regenerations have now been spent on what just feels like nostalgia bait for the reason of “No! Remember when the show was like when you were a kid? It’s like that again! Come back!”
I kind of hope that she is sixteen but, for some reason, doesn’t find a mirror for a while and doesn’t realise how she looks and just goes on being super fab.
That would be pretty great. Imagine 14 being very confused why she’s here but her never picking up on the fact that it’s because she looks like Rose, and not just general confusion about her presence.
And both of them happening with the first openly queer and black numbered Doctor sandwiched between makes me feel incredibly uncomfortable, the optics there are extremely bad
Archie Panjabi is a fantastic Rani and I really hope that we get more of her. Jodie’s scene was really beautiful. I adore Ncuti’s outfit here! Some amazing acting from Millie Gibson.
Omega was utterly wasted and unrecognisable. I find the whole Poppy thing utterly nonsensical.
A very jumbled final.
