Perhaps I could start running an SJA TV club so that those who wanted to watch/rewatch the show could do that and discuss it with others, one episode at a time
Because I really want to watch it now

You should do it. You would love SJA.
This is sort of it, the Trickster seems kind of like a one trick pony in that regard, itās a good trick granted, but I just think those stories were a bit too same-y for my liking
That said if we could have a story where Clyde is ensnared because he can have his one true love, Ellie back, Iād be down for it - Iāve never taken to the Clani āshipā. Though that is a bit unlikely after the Three Doctors Tales of the TARDIS
I am soooo down for that!! You may have to handle essay length responses from me though
Yeah thatās fair, it is the same schtick over and over. It would still be interesting to see him properly on DW though, I wonder if by unconstraining him from a kids show they would be able to do something really very dark indeed, which would be fun.
And imagine if they brought Ellie back! Now that was a dark episodeā¦ I am a Clani girlie myself, but I do think itās silly the way they keep dragging it out as a will they wonāt they thing.
Aaaand we have gone solidly off topic
I love essays! Essays are cool! Give me all of them!
I will consider this, but only after weāve finished this new season!
Anyway! Legends! Ruby Sunday! Yay!
Is it just me or has this started to happen more and more lately
I also have never watched SJA, I wanted to ever since I was a child but I kept wanting to watch Classic Who and get to know Sarah and K9 first. Iām getting closer to that goal now, only 17 years later. I do sorta wish I had experienced it as a child now, though.
Looking over the list, Iām pretty sure I watched āInvasion of the Baneā & āRevenge of the Slitheenā. Not sure if I watched both parts of the latter, and honestly, that probably explains why I stopped there at the timeā¦
A badge is enough to motivate the K9ers (and that show is being investigated by Amnesty International) so I think a badge should be enough for you to do SJA.
Iād be up for in-depth deeply considered essays about SJA. Count me in!
RTD is not perfect in any way but I wonder if he is not the best in the industry when it comes to sharing interesting behind the scenes stuff.
That would be really fun! This could also be a spinoff club where we start with SJA, then Torchwood, then Class, and finish with K9?
K9 Club!!!
Heās really paying forward from his love of (and inspiration by) āThe Making of Doctor Whoā, isnāt he? I agree, itās a real strength of his and adds much to his time as showrunner.
Plus, he can sketch in a few short strokes what I could never hope to draw. That is simply not where my talents lie, alas.
If that happens then I will visit each K9 episode thread to say - āWatched this - it was awfulā, get my badge for that weekās club and move on.
Anyway - Legend of Ruby Sunday - that was a crazy episode right?
(Steering some threads back on topic round here is like steering a cruise ship!)
My one big negative on this episode:
Iām really not a fan of the idea that Susanās parent is in the Doctorās future. There have been a lot of really wonderful small emotional moments around the fact that the Doctor is a parent, and it seems like a really unnecessary thing to change. And Iām really worried that itās setting up for something like Ruby being his daughter, which if thatās the direction theyāre going in then Iāll judge it by its execution, but itās the kind of concept that seems more likely to land as a plot twist for the sake of a plot twist rather than really emotionally meaningful.
But, hopefully, without the D&V.
I agree wholeheartedly. Did watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJcvgJsMRNA yesterday. It seemed like he was always a dad in the past of his personal timeline (even if his personal past was in the future of his current location in time). Until āThe Legend of Ruby Sunday,ā that is.
I really do not understand why they introduced this further complication. Iām curious to see if this setup will lead to a satisfying plot development later on.
Just a few episodes ago, the Doctor being a father was key in saving the day in Boom! āDad to Dad. Dust to Dustā.
And thereās this comment on the YouTube video linked above, which made me even more confused (itās regards to Kate saying her father never mentioned Susan):
Itās weird that The Brigadier never mentioned Susan, considering he was in the same room as her in Five Doctors. And there was a photo of her in Day of The Doctor at the Black Archive.
