Episode Discussion: Lucky Day

Ohhhh this episode was so good. It’s proabably my favourite one so far. I’m not sure yet, maybe I’ll think differently in a day or so, but I didn’t think that about the last few episodes, so yeah.
I didn’t at all spoil myself, so all of it actually completely caught me off guard. Like of course, I smelled that Conrad was kinda off and supposed to be seen that way, but I really liked the change of course mid-episode. I kinda had assumed that they would just go along a ‘let’s look how the world will do without the Doctor’ kinda route, but I really prefer what they have done instead.
And I do actually think that the scene between adult Conrad and the Doctor was placed so well. If anyone would’ve told me yesterday that they would have the Doctor so overtly adress something I would’ve cringed, but the way they did it somehow just absolutely sold me, I am not even sure why.
Also I love how unhinged Kate is. It very much fits her charakter, and I am glad we finally saw her go through with something that is seen as a step too far, without the Doctor to keep her from doing it.

It’s no secret that I’ve been struggling with this season so far.

I appreciate that the first three episodes have been of amazing quality and have been very well written.

However, they just haven’t done the job for me.

I was actually considering taking a break from watching Doctor Who.

Then Lucky Day came along.

And I loved it so, so much!!!

My favourite episode of this season so far, perhaps my favourite of this era so far, it was just amazing :star_struck:

I told you all McTighe was a good writer!

This is getting 5/5 and a Favourite!

ABSOLUTE. EFFING. CINEMA. PETE MCTIGHE I APOLOGISE, I WAS UNFAMILIAR WITH YOUR GAME.

I liked Conrad at first. He seemed corny and sincere and exactly what Ruby deserved. And then the reveal. I will not lie, I had seen set photos beforehand that revealed the Shreek incident as fake. But holy crap, it hit so much harder than expected. He is top 10 most loathsome doctor who villains to me now.

I have never stanned Kate as much as I did this episode. Watching her cook this fraud was so cathartic, especially after (not to bring the mood down) the recent UK local elections. Many Conrads will be getting jobs this week, we can only hope there are Kates to balance them.

This did so much for Ruby for me. I liked her, but now I love her. And that scene with 15!!! I love how much darker he’s being taken this season! I hope Conrad knows how hated he is, sans any finale shenanigans. And Mrs. Flood, I love you, but you could find sooooo many better avatars or champions or whatever to fight your cause rather than Alex Jones MConspiracy.

10/10 episode. I adored it. S1 I love you babygirl but S2 is COOKING you.

Episode was so good! I wonder how Conrad knows about Belinda?

He met her as a kid in the opening scene in 2007 :slightly_smiling_face:

Oh my GOD. That was the best Kate Stewart we’ve had. Ever. Holy moly.

The Doctor’s speech at the end. Captured so much pain and so much truth and the heartbreak of Conrad’s response… oh my god.

This episode gets me so excited for The War Between the Land and the Sea. Pete McTighe you absolute genius.

I love how interconnected this season is, everything feels so carefully planned and well executed, I loved all the bits of continuity to place the bits with the Doctor.

Wow. Just wow.

So a few things:

I guess it was Conrad that put the Doctor on Belinda’s track unintentionally. I was suspecting another Missy situation where their meetup was orchestrated, but I guess not. Unless Ms Flood has something to say about it :eyes:

It’s nice that it seems like the Doctor still keeps an eye on Ruby after they parted ways, either that or someone told him about the incident. I always feel bad that the Doctor just abandons companions and odds are they never see him again until decades later, so it’s good that he’s still looking out.

I don’t know what Ms Flood’s angle is, and I don’t care. I really hope Conrad doesn’t come back, I think the thing that makes him particularly special is that he’s just an ordinary dude. He shows that regular people can cause serious harm through lies and manipulation, that it’s so easy to undermine good people through exploiting fear and fanning hatred. If he ends up coming back I think it undermines that message.

It’s nice that they showed Ruby’s two Mums spending time together, just one big happy family. I expect to see Kate at the next family gathering since Ruby loves to collect mothers like they’re Pokemon .

Okay i dont agree with this what,i mean fine if u like kerblam but saying this is definitely an opinion.

So can you describe me the objective taste of being wrong? :eyes:

Kerblam is one of my favourite episodes of all time!

I think Lucky Day will also be joining my favourites list.

Ok but I still can’t get over that last scene
We always see the doctor using a kind of future sight to tell people odd facts or nice things about their future (ie, the policeman in TCORR)
But this is the first time we see him (to my knowledge) actively tell someone their timeline to break them down and make them miserable. How many times does that happen?
