Episode Discussion: Lucky Day

I’ve love Pete McTighe’s work on the Classic Who Collection boxset trailers. Hopefully this story can capture a bit of that energy!

Just a reminder that everyone agreed not to watch the episode or discuss it here until I’ve seen it sometime in the evening so I don’t have 400+ posts to read…

We agreed that, yes?

YES?

Good…

I expect to see no more posts after this one for about 16 hours, right?

RIGHT?

What happened to Golden Time Mr Delta

Yes, please! Even if I get up at a decent time and turn on the episode by 8am, that’s 4pm UK time and I’m stuck scrolling through hundreds of replies before I can comment.

I’m curious if I’ll end up liking Ruby or Belinda more by the time s2 or Fifteen’s run concludes. I went into s1 wanting to fall in love with Ruby (I still like her), but I feel like I know more about Belinda and she’s only had three episodes.

I’m a big fan of Belinda, an antagonistic relationship between the Doctor and a companion is one of my faves

I don’t think they’re really antagonistic. She seems to not be one to want to travel, just wanting to get home, but there doesn’t seem to be animosity between them.

The antagonism was dropped almost immediately in Lux, which is a blessing or a curse depending on your point of view, she’s still very sarcastic though.

I think Belinda is rightfully stressed out about the whole not being able to return home, and being forced into this situation. She clearly enjoys travelling with the Doctor, but would rather feel as if she isn’t forced to either.

I like Ruby but I must say I already like Belinda way more!!

I’m really excited for the possibility of them meeting though :star_struck: I wonder if they get on or their personalities clash at all.

Well that was good. And I think one of my favorite 15 moments so far. I’ll discuss more when I’ve had more sleep.

Well that episode was frustrating, not because it was bad, it was actually quite good. Unfortunately, I know too many people like Conrad, and his whole social media fake news push is regrettably a very real thing that happens. Good to see Kate again in her morally grey goodness, 10/10 15 moment at the end.

One of my friends rated it 5/10

Yeah i thought that was really good, for a doctor lite ep, the monsters looked amazing, i think they captured the weaponizing fake news really well which is a hard thing to do.

The moments with 15 are some of his best, this series is an all-timer so far!

Oh that reminds me, I thought the episode looks real lowish budget, but in a good way, reminded me of the RTD1 era. Ofc it turns out the reason was because it actually was a dude in a suit instead of CGI, but I love it regardless

Oh I loved that! 4,5/5 :star:

4 for 4 in this season as far as I’m concerned. I liked season 1, but this is just such an improvement all around.

My word did Millie Gibson kill it in this story, just fantastic.

But three things: that was some seriously bad acting from Ncuti Gatwa in the 2007 scene + that beanie just did not suit him…
The Vlinx is still utterly pointless and completely unexplained.
The little Susan Twist’esque cameos by Mrs Flood is doing nothing to build suspense for the season finale for me, the last three episodes have felt so forced on this front.

I am so excited for the rest of this season, and I so want to get more info about The War Between the Land and the Sea - I am super enjoying this configuration of UNIT :slightly_smiling_face:
