DW Christmas: It’s a Wonderful War and Other Stories

I was tired! And I only missed like five minutes of it, I was proper chuckling while I was waiting for the bus. I enjoyed it much more than the Missy one.

I haven’t listened to any yet, holding out until nearer Xmas. Probably on my train journey back to my folks.

The Legacy of Blood was beautiful. A new favourite story. I’ve only done a couple of Jago and Litefoot box sets but this seemed to be a wonderful tribute and capstone for them and bought some tears to my eyes by the end. Any Big Finish story that can elicit an emotional response is worthy of high praise from me x

Unfortunately I was not as enamored with LoB as others were. It was fine (a good story for those who are deeply passionate about the companions featured), but for me it was nothing special.

Does anyone know if I would be okay skipping Legacy of Blood? I’ve heard it’s a wonderful tribute to Jago and Litefoot, but I’m currently relistening to their stories (about half way through.)

I was hoping to come back to it later on.

Could I skip ahead to the Smith and Sullivan one without missing anything? Not sure if there’s a connective storyline or anything.

There is absolutely nothing connecting the four xmas stories beyond xmas theme, you’ll be fine

Don’t ask why it took a week to continue, I’m just busy, but Legacy of Blood is a fantastic tribute to Jago & Litefoot and just makes me want to do a relisten of the series because it’s always been one of my favorites and sort of the magic Big Finish spin off that shouldn’t work but does.

Not taking a week this time, Presents of Mind was solid enough, I found it very much in the tradition of the new Who Christmas Special which I am usually very mixed on and this one is no exception. Performances are carrying it, especially Annette Badland

Honestly Annette Badland is such a wonderful actress, I’m glad Big Finish have been hiring her more. She just plays authoritative chracters so well.

It’s a Wonderful War clearly understands a lot of what makes It’s a Wonderful Life work and I quite liked it. I also do like when we do Doctor Who from the perspective of other characters. There’s maybe a tad too much happiness in the end of the main story but then again that’s also part of what it’s pastiche does as well.

Admittedly I pretty much just got this for Leela, buttttt I have to admit it was really fun. I like the timey wimey nonsense in It’s a Wonderful War, and the time war music is my favorite theme version and it made me so happy it would’ve been worth it just for that.

Unholy Night

This was a fun story, though rather on the light side (by that, I mean insubstantial as opposed to light hearted). Michelle Gomez is always tremendous fun though had very little to actually do. Solid and entertaining but not a favourite.

Sixie tomorrow, with Jago and Litefoot. Now that sounds like a great recipe for a Christmas story. I’ll let everyone know my thoughts once I’ve listened.

Legacy of Blood

What a true delight! Comforting yet touching on grief, torment and darkness. Outstanding performance from the ever reliable Louise Jameson (of course), with Colin in cuddly Six mode (so perfect for a Christmas story). Loved the ambient sound. Loved the setting. Loved the homage to the wonderful Christopher Benjamin and Trevor Baxter - oh how they are missed, yet how wonderful that they gave us so much more of Jago and Litefoot via Big Finish. Ever shall they live on in audio.

Christmas delight in the Whoniverse. :christmas_tree: :man_vampire:

Unholy Night: Missy was in top form, the premise is pretty interesting and it’s entertaining. Not much else to it but it does what it does well

I enjoyed Unholy Night and Legacy of Blood (although as I said elsewhere, doing a sequel to Series 2 of Jago and Litefoot is a brave move).

I’m liking the concept of Presents of Mind but I’m just not feeling Miller and Naylor.

Which will be happening on Monday.

Presents of Mind: thought this one was really nice. I really enjoy listening to Sarah and Harry and Lavinia just bickering back and forth it’s delightful

It’s A Wonderful War: yayyy some Veklin crumbs!! and even the implication of a prior regeneration :eyes: uh, apart from that I didn’t really like this one at all. Too hard on the tropes and the tooth rotting sweetness
