I had a literal dream a while ago about Aaron Sorkin writing an episode and I think that could potentially be something really interesting. Literally no idea if he could do sci-fi, but I think he can do some really great character work
Dan Abnett could be interesting. I do enjoy his work for W40K very much. He just gets characters. And The Forever Trap is one of my all-time favorite audio stories. I think he hasnāt done any work for TV so far?
J. Michael Straczynski to plot out a season arc.
I think that the writing team behind Comunity could write a good season of Doctor Who. They clearly know how to handle genre-hopping and still make a series feel connected.
After being vaguely disappointed by the musical number in The Devilās Chord, you know who I want to direct a proper musical episode?
Baz Luhrman. Do it in the style of the Red Curtain trilogy and Iām sold.
If you want a musical why not try out the king of musicals: Andrew Lloyd Webber
Heās a composer though not a director - and experienced in theatre (and actually, most of his musicals wouldnāt be anywhere near my top 10). Lurhman creates amazing worlds on screen with a musicality which I think could work for Doctor Who.
He would make a really good episode. Feel like he would have been perfect to write an episode during the Moffat era.
Had to look him up. He would be perfect. I feel like the esthetics of Moulin Rouge would fit Doctor Who.
I am still saying a musical episode could be good, Doctor Who can do anything - but for the love of Kronos, keep Murray Gold and RTD faaaar away from the songs and lyrics!
(I wasnāt vaguely disappointed by The Devilās Chord, I was massively disappointed by The Devilās Chord )
The only problem with Andrew Lloyd Webber is that his views are disgusting. He showed such a callous disregard for his own actors and creative talent behind his shows during COVID-19.
Well, if weāre going to pull someone in for a musicalā¦ maybe we can get Alan Menken?
Letās get Alan Menken, Elton John, Phil Collins and Lin-Manuel Miranda together to make a musical extravaganza in the Disney Renaissance tradition! Baz Luhrmann could direct!
Another one could be my Mumās favourite West End star, Michael Ball. Although heād probably be more guest starring rather than writing or directing.
Writer: I consistently enjoy John Dorneyās Big Finish scripts. Heās always entertaining and often brilliant. Iād love him to write for the TV series. Alternatively, from āCabinet of Curiositiesā, David S. Goyer who wrote the script for āThe Autopsyā
Director: David Prior (also āThe Autopsyā)
Yes please to Dorney! Especially if heās allowed to get as weird and experimental as he often does in BF
