If you could choose any director (alive or dead) to direct an episode, or any writer to write one, who would you pick?
The first one that comes to mind for me is Edgar Wright, he’s mentioned wanting to work on an episode in the past and I think it would be really fun if he ever got the chance!
I’d like Douglas Adams to spring back to life and start writing episodes for Doctor Who again.
Does this be television writers, or can it be book authors too?
I was thinking television, but definitely doesn’t have to be
TV, Novels, Comics, Audio, go wild!
While I haven’t read anything else he’s written besides Star Wars, I kind of wonder what a Timothy Zahn Doctor Who story would look like.
I mostly want to see more of the big name EU writers write for the main show. Writers like John Dorney, Tim Foley, Jacqueline Rayner, Kate Orman, James Goss, or Lawrence Miles
Other authors include Andy McDermott (british and excellent action movie novel in the Wilde and Chase series), Eric Flint (I love his 1632 series), and although I’ve never read any of his books (they’ve been highly recommended to me though), John Ringo.
Sadly, Eric Flint is on the “bring back to life to write” side of things. Even though the 1632 series is more popular, I like his collaboration with Dave Freer, “Rats, Bats, and Vats”.
Can we get James Goss to bring back Torchwood
Please?
Thinking about it, “Rats, Bats, and Vats” is exactly the type of setting I’d love to see in Doctor Who, too.
It’s a far future colony where the actual colonists are rich, had the actual work is done by Vats - cloned people who do all the dirty work, and accompanying them, bioengineered creatures based on rats and bats, uplifted with alien technology in their head that has works of fiction downloaded into it that their personality is partially based on. And, of course, there’s a war going on…
A Third Doctor-style sci-fi thriller written by Ian Fleming!
A mind-bending sci-fi epic for the War Doctor, directed by Christopher Nolan!
A complex, philosophical adventure with Seven and Ace, written by Brian Herbert!
An escapist adventure across time and space with Ten and Donna, directed by Steven Spielberg!
An educational fairy tale adventure featuring Eleven, Amy and Rory, written by H. C. Andersen (and set in Denmark, because we’ve had enough of Norway already!)
One can always dream…
I need John Finnemore to write an episode sometime, audio or TV. Either would be brilliant, I know he’d knock it out of the park
I’d love to see John Dorney, Juno Dawson and James Goss write for the main show! And I’d love Shearman to come back.
Outside of the Whoniverse hmm… I’ll get back to you on that.
i think Dave Malloy should have free reign to write one really ■■■■■■-up two-parter and then dip, i’d love to see what he would come up with. or maybe a Big Finish boxset. you just know it would sprawl everywhere and back and leave you sitting and staring off into space for hours afterward, which is why it’s important that he only gets one story to tell, otherwise it would get overwhelming.
also, seconding Juno Dawson (and Ella Watts) for the show. i’ve seen James Goss mentioned too, but he’s already written more Doctor Who than anyone else (191 credits, according to this site), so it feels weird to say he should write more Doctor Who.
He’s written more than anyone else which is why he deserves to get a shot a TV story imo
Robert Ludlum would be another along the lines of Ian Flemming.
Acually, if we’d gotten a Third Doctor/UNIT story written by Ian Flemming and starring Christopher Lee as the villain. That would’ve been awesome.
Honestly, I would still love to see that Peter Jackson-directed episode.
I also think an episode written and directed by James Gunn would be amazing. He’s one of my favourite writers/directors. Sadly that will never happen though.
Edgar Wright would be incredible. Especially if Simon Pegg was cast as a new character too.
