Thought this would be an interesting topic, with Doctor Who and Star Trek crossing paths again in the Lost In Time mobile game.
Which franchise would you like to see Doctor Who cross over with on TV?
Personally I think a crossover with Fantastic Four would work brilliantly. Judging by the leaked test footage, the upcoming MCU film adaptation looks like it has this very neat retro-futuristic vibe that could work well for a Doctor Who setting.
Plus I think the Doctor and Reed Richards would make for quite a pairing. Both are socially awkward scientists who are always the cleverest person in the room. Iād love a scene with those two just bouncing off ideas on some crazy scientific theory, whilst their friends just stand looking bemused in the corner.
It almost came close to happening in the comics too, with the Seventh Doctor dropping Deathās Head on the roof of the Baxter Building for Reed Richards to deal with.
I have an idea for a small sketch, maybe for Children in Need.
So, in Call the Midwife thereās a doctor character called Dr. Turner who is played by Stephen McGann, brother of Paul. I think it would be fun if Eight fell through a dimensional rift into 1960s Poplar and found that āThe Doctorā in this universe is an actual doctor, and he would get to see how Dr. Turner and the local midwives/nurses help the community and keep them safe and healthy. Humour could be found in Eight trying to help and realising he has no idea what heās doing and is just getting in the way
Then there could be some sort of reference to the charitable fundraising efforts that keep the Maternity Clinics going and Eight could do a little voiceover appeal as he heads back to his own dimension, something like: āIn this dimension, it is the whole country that comes together to keep each other safe, not some madman in a box. But they need to protect their public services, and tonight, more than ever, with the cost of living so high, they need to donate to Children in Need, so that their Doctors and Nurses can continue saving the world.ā
I should say Iāve yet to expereince Eight content other than Night of the Doctor (I am a loooong way away on my Classics watch through) so idk if that would fit his character, but nobody elseās brother is in another flagship BBC programme to my knowledge
Iām not sure about crossovers because to me they would cause problems with canon and with future stories.
For example if the Star Trek crossover was used even more, letās say Fifteen actually went and visited Picard, then that makes the conversation in āThe Empty Childā where Rose talks about the Doctor needing to be āmore Spockā to be completely nonsensical. If Spock was a real character in the Doctor Who universe then how come thereās also a TV show about him?!
So whilst itās fun for games and maybe even comics, if it was ever officially crossed over, it would cause lots of problems.
But as just a fun thing to think about, I like this topic, and Iād like The Doctor to visit Discworld
I donāt want a regular crossover because of the reasons that @shauny and @BillFiler mentioned. But it could be fun with an episode filming set of another show. Like the Doctor arrives on the set of House of the Dragon and suddenly the Dragons are alive! The Doctor and Matt Smith (who already is part of the Whoniverse) has to team together and find out what is wrong.
To be fair, Star Trek is also a TV show in the Star Trek universe. In the 2009 movie Kirk plays a song by the Beastie Boys, who are knows for their song āIntergalacticā, which very clearly references Star Trek: āLike a pinch on the neck of Mr. Spockā. This is the Beastie Boys Paradox, and people have come up with a plethora of ways to solve it, but at itās most basic it still implies the existence of the show in-universe. I donāt think the Doctor interacting with Star Trek characters retroactively ruins that reference for me; I think it makes it even better.
Basically, what Iām saying is, Iād love a Trek/Who crossover on screen.
In truth though I have to echo the above responses, I donāt care that much for crossovers. I tend to find them too contrived, and besides Big Finish are doing enough mad crossovers in the Whoniverse already without bringing in anything external
That show had a banger of a theme. The place they filmed it isnāt too far in the car from where I am. My parents took me there as a kid and itās a very nice location.
