Doctor Who Crossovers You'd Like To See

Thought this would be an interesting topic, with Doctor Who and Star Trek crossing paths again in the Lost In Time mobile game.

Which franchise would you like to see Doctor Who cross over with on TV?

Personally I think a crossover with Fantastic Four would work brilliantly. Judging by the leaked test footage, the upcoming MCU film adaptation looks like it has this very neat retro-futuristic vibe that could work well for a Doctor Who setting.

Plus I think the Doctor and Reed Richards would make for quite a pairing. Both are socially awkward scientists who are always the cleverest person in the room. Iā€™d love a scene with those two just bouncing off ideas on some crazy scientific theory, whilst their friends just stand looking bemused in the corner.

It almost came close to happening in the comics too, with the Seventh Doctor dropping Deathā€™s Head on the roof of the Baxter Building for Reed Richards to deal with.

What crossovers would you like to see?

I have an idea for a small sketch, maybe for Children in Need.

So, in Call the Midwife thereā€™s a doctor character called Dr. Turner who is played by Stephen McGann, brother of Paul. I think it would be fun if Eight fell through a dimensional rift into 1960s Poplar and found that ā€˜The Doctorā€™ in this universe is an actual doctor, and he would get to see how Dr. Turner and the local midwives/nurses help the community and keep them safe and healthy. Humour could be found in Eight trying to help and realising he has no idea what heā€™s doing and is just getting in the way

Then there could be some sort of reference to the charitable fundraising efforts that keep the Maternity Clinics going and Eight could do a little voiceover appeal as he heads back to his own dimension, something like: ā€œIn this dimension, it is the whole country that comes together to keep each other safe, not some madman in a box. But they need to protect their public services, and tonight, more than ever, with the cost of living so high, they need to donate to Children in Need, so that their Doctors and Nurses can continue saving the world.ā€

I should say Iā€™ve yet to expereince Eight content other than Night of the Doctor (I am a loooong way away on my Classics watch through) so idk if that would fit his character, but nobody elseā€™s brother is in another flagship BBC programme to my knowledge :joy:

I take it you already know about this

And of course, Sister Monica is already a fan:

The One Born Every Minute sketch is still one of the best things ever made for Comic Relief.

Iā€™m not sure about crossovers because to me they would cause problems with canon and with future stories.

For example if the Star Trek crossover was used even more, letā€™s say Fifteen actually went and visited Picard, then that makes the conversation in ā€œThe Empty Childā€ where Rose talks about the Doctor needing to be ā€œmore Spockā€ to be completely nonsensical. If Spock was a real character in the Doctor Who universe then how come thereā€™s also a TV show about him?!

So whilst itā€™s fun for games and maybe even comics, if it was ever officially crossed over, it would cause lots of problems.

But as just a fun thing to think about, I like this topic, and Iā€™d like The Doctor to visit Discworld :joy:

Iā€™m Mister Grumpy Pants when it comes to crossovers on TV. No thank you

Comics and games, as shauny says is the perfect medium for such things for me. And honestly isnā€™t this what fanfic is all about :wink:

I donā€™t want a regular crossover because of the reasons that @shauny and @BillFiler mentioned. But it could be fun with an episode filming set of another show. Like the Doctor arrives on the set of House of the Dragon and suddenly the Dragons are alive! The Doctor and Matt Smith (who already is part of the Whoniverse) has to team together and find out what is wrong.

I think these sort of crossovers are better left to comic books. But I am surprised we never got a Children In Need Doctor Who meets Red Dwarf sketch.

To be fair, Star Trek is also a TV show in the Star Trek universe. In the 2009 movie Kirk plays a song by the Beastie Boys, who are knows for their song ā€œIntergalacticā€, which very clearly references Star Trek: ā€œLike a pinch on the neck of Mr. Spockā€. This is the Beastie Boys Paradox, and people have come up with a plethora of ways to solve it, but at itā€™s most basic it still implies the existence of the show in-universe. I donā€™t think the Doctor interacting with Star Trek characters retroactively ruins that reference for me; I think it makes it even better.

Basically, what Iā€™m saying is, Iā€™d love a Trek/Who crossover on screen.

Isnā€™t this a place DW has already beenā€¦? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

In truth though I have to echo the above responses, I donā€™t care that much for crossovers. I tend to find them too contrived, and besides Big Finish are doing enough mad crossovers in the Whoniverse already without bringing in anything external

You could justify it by having the crossover take place in the Land Of Fiction.

There was a Doctor Who meets Heartbeat* episode!

*Heartbeat is a period police drama set within the North Riding of Yorkshire during the 1960s.

That show had a banger of a theme. The place they filmed it isnā€™t too far in the car from where I am. My parents took me there as a kid and itā€™s a very nice location.

I should be working, but am thinking of more quick Red Dwarf/Doctor Who photoshopped image ideas & going down a YouTube rabbit holeā€¦

Now youā€™re talkingā€¦only problem is that The Doctor is an alien, and there arenā€™t any aliens in Red Dwarf.

(Most annoying thing about those titles is that the logo doesnā€™t line up with the drum hit at the end.)

give the doctor a pokemon

Red Dwarf would be a very fun one

Inkeeping with comedy sci-fi as well though, Hitchikers would be very fun, especially with 4 given the Adams ties
