Isn’t it obvious? Moffat will be taking over from RTD in 2028, followed by Chibnall in 2036 and then RTD again in 2041!
I’d also say that as attractive being a showrunner might seem to us, it’s not really that attractive a position for people that would actually be qualified to do it. I seriously doubt the short seasons and most of the writing being on him is RTD’s choice, and I wouldn’t be terribly surprised if the showrunners are having to write under pretty tight deadlines. Not to mention being the target of a bunch of “fans” criticism…
Ah, so Iris Wildthyme then!
I could see him stepping into a Kevin Feige/James Gunn position and overseeing whoniverse productions generally, if that’s something he wanted to do
Modelled on Turlough…(out to nobble the Doctor at the first opportunity)
I beg your pardon lol
Yes I think that’s what he really means by Doctor Who adopting the Marvel model. King RTD lol
We are like this with certain shows. The new series of 9-1-1 is dropping episodes 1 a week but we know from watching previous seasons that we will want the ability to watch the next episode if it ends on a cliffhanger. Doctor Who we do watch once a week - waiting till later on a Saturday is torture enough when I know everyone else has already watched it!
You are forgetting the A.I. version of John Nathan Turner that someone clearly is working on!
Personaly I want new showrunners & new writers. Not the same usual suspects. I look at the writing credits for RTD2 & find it dissappointing.
We all know in our heart of hearts that the next showrunner will be Mark Gatiss right?
He certainly fits the “new series showrunner mold”.
Seriously though, who would be next in line to take over after RTD?
Don’t even joke about that
Possibly Pete McTighe. Two episodes of the Chibnall era, a bunch of classic Who minisodes, and Tales of the Tardis…
Thing is, it doesn’t actually seem to be a show many people want to take on! The fact we got RTD back tells us something (even if it isn’t quite the doomladen message a lot of the Chibnall detractors wanted us to believe).
He does seem the obvious choice, but is another person who is part of fandom. I’d like someone different, from outside the middle-aged white man fan group. Who, I’m not sure.
If she had more credits on things, I’d want Maxine Alderton. Her episodes under Chibnall were wonderful…
Pete’s more the person I think they’d probably go for, rather than who I’d necessarily want.
Edit: Didn’t notice that she’d written 124+ episodes of a soap opera, so maybe more credits on things then I thought…
I think one rumour a while ago was Sally Wainwright, writer of Happy Valley & Gentleman Jack amongst other things, I think she’d be great, but I doubt would want to commit to being a long term showrunner.
Okkkayyyyy guys I get the hint.
I’ll do it, I’ll be the showrunner after RTD is gone!
I’ll also write all the episodes, and star as The Doctor alongside my companions, River Song and Ricky September.
I’ll also write the theme tune and sing the theme tune!
Err folks?
Abort, abort, abort
